Who gives a crap about sony and pioneer! they dont make top quality stuff...

brag to me when you have infinity, JL Audio, rockford, and high quality alpine stereo equip!

it takes a long time to do that. you braged about haveing put 1200 bucks into your stuff?

Thats nothing!! i paid almost 500 for my current alpine head unit! im not loaded so i do it piece by piece. Im looking at the stealth box by JL Audio (nother 500 with out amp and crossover). That way i dont look like a truck waiting to get ripped off.

Does anyone else have the XM Satellte radio setup?

You can dump 2, 3, or 100 thousand dollars into anything you want, I dont give a sh*t. Thats you. If sony and pioneer are so crapy, why havet they been around for so long?
About the satallite radio, if they were out when I bought my head unit, I would have gotten one. They wlook to be the wave of the future! FM/AM are on thier way out! Good luck with your "million dollar system".

Everybody be nice. Sony and Pioneer make affordable products and high end products. Both of those companies make a head units that cost $1000 +. Pioneer ODR and Sony XES are far better then a lot of products by Rockford and Alpine. It is all about $$$$$$.

I have an Alpine CD Player that is Satallite ready but I have not subsribed to the service which is about $40 a month I think. FM will be around for many years to come, look at how many people still don't have cable TV.

It would be nice to drive across country and listen to your favorite station the whole way.

Eh, didnt meant to snap. i just have always seen the low end of pioneer and sony then. "Best Buy" Stuff... Ive seen the same ones at walmart too... Becuase of that, i have always assumed that pioneer and sony make a lower quality product than the rest. i had not heard of a high quality head from them.

I guess i pictured a kid (muchlike myself at that age) bumping around with what (i) thought was a great sounding system, and looking back, realizing it was crap. ha!

i have to check the prices, last i heard it was going to be only 10 bucks a month for xms subscription.(i just checked, it is 10 a month).

So its not overly expensive by any means, and for commercial free, when its in my area (nov15) ill prob sign up.

i gues the big thing is how much the module will run. my understanding is that there is still yet another thing you need to buy, even if the radios are xms ready...

yep there it is... 280 bucks. what a sacrafice eh?! for that much, i think i will probably wait a while...

It won't be long before the major networks stick their fingers into this market and start pluging away commercials on the satallite. I think the prices will come down once auto makers start offering it to the general public. I can remember when a single CD player cost over $500.00 and now they will give you one with a large pizza.

Cheap or expensive... so long as it sounds good who cares. Yes Walmart does have some pretty crappy systems for sale. Pioneer and Sony cheap systems are still better then Kraco and Sparkomatic. Right????

I still back my sony. My headunit, a year ago, cost just over $400.00. It has good power and a killer bass system. Fully loaded to hook to just about anything you want. Except satallite! I will soon be looking into getting a TV tuner and video monitor. Yeah sony does make alot of lower end components, but they also have their jems. Last time I really looked into it, my sony EX CDX-M670 has more base power than most other head units. I agree about the pioneer subs. They are temporary. Simply for price. Sony ES 12's or maybe Kicker Comp. if I can get ahold of that much $. But hey, everyone has their opinions and tastes. I respect that. Joe E.

Have you heard Cerwin Vega Car speakers? I havent, but i have a pair of 8's at home, and let me tell you, they pound the living hell out of most tens i ahve heard.

If i was doing my truck with a box in teh rear, id go CV's all the way! Only bad thing is that they are wicked space hungry.

JL Audio makes a new sub apparently, or is making it now. It needs less space. They claim it their 12 takes up less space then an old12, and hits as hard as a 15. Thats a hell of a statement, but id like to hear it.

"13W7 has 144% more displacement potential than a 15W6 (7.7 dB)"

Checkout their stealth box for the Dakota...

Yeah I have heard of CV. Have had no expierence with them though. I do know JL Audio makes killer components. I know a guy in my area that drives a 2001 Explored Sport. He has the entire rear of the thing full of JL 12's. He's got more than 15 now! I am not kidden. He is sponsored by a local place called Sound Advice. He also travels to shows and has won many bass comps. The sponsor told him never to run all 15 subs with his windows up because he would shatter them if he did run them all. Its nuts. The truck is worth over $55 grand now. Anyways, I am looking into something a bit more powerful. The truck cab is ext. but not that big anyways. I did this for my fun, not to comp. So I need nothing too much. Thanks for the advice though. Good luck with your system too. Joe E.

Thats funny! I heard of a guy (this could be a Urban Legend... heh) that had too much bass, but his windshield didnt break, it just popped out and hit the hood. Ha, i dunno though. Shatter sounds more like it.

A friend of mine in college ran JL's. He had two 10's. I couldnt believe how good they sounded, and how damn low they went!

Definetly the ones i will be buying someday. Prob not 10's, but well see. i thought about buildign a box that replaces the rear seat. Not one so big that it is the back, but one that people can sit on (build the box the size and shape of the seat).

I thought i could use existing hardware to mount it to the cab, and pad it so its not too uncomftable. I mean, have you sat in the back anyway? Not the best.

Brandsmart qoted me 300 for a custom box with padding. I dont think i have the craftsmanship to do it myself. It would be made of fiberglass.

Dave.

Dave, 300 bucks is not bad. I bought a factory made box from Best buys, cause I had some credit there, and it cost me near 200. I took out the padding and seat from the drivers side rear seat and the box fits in there nicley. Sits on the storage comp. But the problem is it takes up 2/3 of the back and it is so big that my drivers seat cant recline back very far. Far enough for me, but maybe not for others. But that box sounds good. Brandsmart, thats on the east Fla coast. Where are you located. I am near Ft Myers Fla. Its a small world. Well let ya go. Your seat Idea is good!

Im all over man...

I got the price quote about 2 months ago when i lived in Missouri. I just moved back to NH about a month ago. I havent foudn a brandsmart out here yet, but im sure there is someplace that can do it. What may cost me more, will probably even out in sales tax (none here in NH).

brandsmart is a great place. i like it. its a mix between a best buy and a local stereo shop.

i like it better cause i truley dont trust stereo shops. ive seen to many ppl get the duct tape install. (im serious!) Best buy, there ok for movies and tables, cds and appliances. But they dont carry the brands i want (JL Audio and Alipine). i dont know if it is becuase of the higher prices or what.

So i found that bransmarts are a nice mix of the two. Cause stereo shops have the nice stuff and will do ANY install you want.

I need to find a place where i can look at the eye candy. heh.

right now i just started my new job so i have to pocket all i can to pay for the move and late bills. ha.

untill then (and it will be a while) ill listen to the infinites that came with the truck... Which dont sounds bad at all by any means!

I kept the stock deck, re-installed the 400W amp I had from my previous monster truck that got stolen, and use the stock Thunderform with 10" MTX 6000 subs. It sounds good, didn't cost me an arm and a leg, and since you can't see a damned thing I won't be crying like you guys will when someone jacks your gear. Take it from experience, even if you have a sweet alarm if you show it off someone's going to want it more than you.

SinCity R/T - I hear that!

Thats my goal. Replace the seat box (Make it look factory) or use a stealth box. The head has a detachable face.

Im tossed between the CV's and JL's.

And yes SinCity, i have had my older car broken into. They stole it all. Morons didnt know how to fold down the back seat so they ripped it out!

If they looked they could have probably saved themselves at least 10 minutes.

Bah. Oh well.

By the way... What is a the "Stock Thunderform". Is that another companies version of a stealth box? If so, let me know, id like to see what it goes for.

Thanks!
Dave.

I hear you guys, I have had friends that had their autos trashed. One of them even had racial crap scarpped all over the paint. Dont want to be rasist, but some blacks guys around here just dont like white boys like my friends and I. Another had his car taken to a cane field, stripped and burnt. Common around here for that.
I tried to find a hidden box but no one makes anything for Gen I Daks. Mine is a 1990. But I blacked out the windows as much as possible and my head unit goes totally black when off. And my alarm kills the starter when armed. Hopefully, I wont get it. If you know of anywhere or anyone who makes the "stealth box" or anything else like that for older daks, please let me know. Thanks
