Subject: JL Stealthbox amp? IP: Logged
Message: I'm totally stupid with stereos so please excuse my ignorance, LOL.
Found an almost new stealthbox on eBay with a new JL 8W6 in it. The sub calls for 200W at 3 ohms but the mono amps I've found are rated for 2 ohm. I found a good price on a US Acoustics USX600D (bridged RMS power 300Wx1 @ 2 ohms). Does anyone have any experience with this brand of amp, are they a quality product and is this the right size amp for this application? It's pretty compact in size and it's the only amp I've found that will fit on the board that JL provides for mounting an amp in the enclosure. It don't have speaker level inputs and I want to keep the stock radio for the time being so I think I need a line output converter to splice into the speaker wires coming out of the stock head unit to send a signal to the amp. I plan on running nothing smaller than 8 gauge power wire from the battery. On the ground is it OK to run 8 gauge to a seat bolt with paint removed or should I just run it to the neg batt post or chassis ground off the battery?
I also have an Orion Cobalt 230 amp (fits perfect under the pass seat)that I want to save for when I eventually change out the head unit and probably go with JL components front and rear when I win the lottery, LOL.
Just wondering if this is a good plan and thanks in advance for any insight offered.
