Message: You guys wanna give me a sanity check here:
I wired in my Garmin GPS V directly into my fuse box (looks much cleaner with no wires). I just want to make sure I am not going to fry my brand new $500 tracking system
What I did was this.
I found a "hot" extra port in my fuse box (ignition controlled). I wrapped the positive wire from the GPS cord around one of the prongs on the fuse and pushed it in (I used a 15 amp fuse...same as the cigarette lighter).
I grounded the ground on a little screw a few inches away from the fuse box.
The power cord for the GPS has a 1.5 amp inline fuse (I checked the cigarette lighter adapter cable that came with the unit and it too had a 1.5 amp fuse).
Anyone wanna sanity check me? You guys see any prob's with this? Anything you would have done differently?
Petey

Message: Sounds nice...but i would have put an in-line switch on it, like i do on my LCD and DVD...that way i dont have power to it all the time which lessens the chance of frying it...jus a thought...

Message: Thanks Justin,
Question...you would put a switch on even if the fuse port I used turns on/off with the with the key?
I am fairly new to car electornics and don't want to hurt anything.
Thanks,
Petey
