Subject: Question On Installing Amp IP: Logged
Message: I have read that the easyest way to run the power
cable is to go where the hood relase goes through the fire wall.
One question. I have a Little Rubber Thingy that seals the outside from inside. do i just cut a small hole in it and seal it up with silcone?
Or is there an easier way in doing this? Thankx

Message: Don't cut a hole in it. Get a coat hanger and poke that through (or something else with a small radius) then jam the wire through. Its a little bit of a pain this way but the rubber will be so tight against the wire it will never leak.

Message: I had to punch a small hole in mine to get the 8# to go thru. It's a major pain but with some effort you can do it.

Message: You can run power thru the hood release, I ran #10 for my power inverter that way, but it was like JMII said, a major pain. Theres a much easier way to pull power thru. There is a hole already in the firewall on the passenger side right over the front right wheel well. If you look at firewall from engine side there is a rubber plug right above wheel well, pull that guy out and there is a nice large hole about 3/4" or so. Once the plug is pulled, its also very easily accesable from in the cab, you won't even have to pull dash off. So far, I have #4 for the stereo and my foglight wires running thru (thats with a thick gromet too so there is room to spare for more.)

Message: Also, I was a little worried about tearing the dash apart on a brand new truck, but I found this website and it made it pretty easy to take off.

Everything they say on there is correct, I followed procedure just like they say on there. Now you'll have to do some shimmying and squeezing to get the dash piece out from over the steering wheel (if you're like me and don't have tilt wheel ;) but it comes out, don't be afraid to squeeze a little it won't harm it, just not too hard. Also, it says to leave dash connected to AC controls....you can disconnect all the controls if it makes it easier for you, thats what I did. The pic of the exposed factory head unit also lets you see where the push pins are for the dash that around the head. Just pull, they come right out without hesitation.
