Subject: Amp question, please help IP: Logged
Message: Alright,
I have 2 10" mtx 6000.
I also have replaced both door
and back panel speakers.
running off a 4x amp
When i turn it up loud, the mids and highs
get distorted, my question is, could i get
an amp to juice just the subs? A buddy of
mine told me that because i only have the
one amp, it does that.
I have a 98 Reg cab and the amp is under my seat
now you know thats..................

Message: It is actually better to have seperate amps for your subs and your other speakers. sure it may cost a little bit more.. but with other amps you kinda have more control over what kind of power is going to your subs and then your other componets..
My 2 Cents..

Message: on a 4-channel amp you could turn the gain down on the 2 channels your speakers are on...but 2 amps would be the best way to go...If you dont want 2 amps turn the gain down all the way on both channels, set your head unit setting to where your going to play them loudest...then turn up your radio to about 2 digits past the max. volume you will play them, go back to your amp and turn up the gain until just before it distorts...that way you can play it normal as you would and you shouldnt get any distrotion...

Message: I just installed a Thunderform loaded with two MTX Thunder 6000's this weekend and I'm pushing those speakers just fine from a Thunder 4250D with the External Bass Control (EBC) installed. This amp is well under-rated for power and I'm pleased with how cool it runs being under the drivers seat. If you want a little more boom, go with the 6500D though it has a bigger footprint and I'm not too sure how well it will fit under a seat in a Dak. LOL....no I'm not an MTX salesman.

Message: I'm using that amp cause its what's leftover from my old car. But it allows way more bass than what I'm looking for with my T-form. Anyways, if you want to give those speakers their max RATED power I would suggest going with the Thunder 6500D. Assuming your two subs are 4 ohms wired in parallel, that amp is rated to put out 500WRMS. That way you'll give each speaker what its rated for, 250W RMS. (Keep in mind though that MTX also tests and rates their amps at 14.4VDC, in which they say it will put out 775W RMS into 2 ohms...and don't think that it won't ;) You should have no problem with it fitting under your seat..its the same size as my 4244 which fits fine and they're always on sale new on E-bay. Of course this is all if your considering MTX as your amp.
