Hola fella Dak owners,

I have a '02 Extended Cab Dakota Sport.

I just bought a Garmin GPS V navigation system for it, as well as a wire to power it directly from the fuse box (i guess that's where, it came with a cig. lighter plug...but that didn't look "clean" enough for me).

The problem is...i am new at this and don't want to damage the truck or unit.

The wire plugs into the same place on the unit as the cig lighter adapter did, it obviously is just bare wires at the end.

It has a black wire (ground I assume) and a red wire (power I assume, it says 10-32 VDC on it and has a fuse on the power wire which says ACG/3AG - 1/2 Amp)

First off...

1) Do I go into the fuse box?
2) Where in the fuse box do I wire it? Does it matter?
3) Helpful tips to do or avoid?

Thanks in advance,

Petey

PS. Please try to be as simple as possible with me...I am new to this. Cheers

The fuse box has a couple of extra ports that are empty that are hot with the ignition. Get yourself a test light and try them out with the key on, make sure there not hot all them time. Use a simple spade connector and just push it in one of those empty ports. Ground wire can be hooked up under the dash, there are several small screws you can hook on to. Make sure you have some type of fuse on that power wire, otherwise you may see a nice smoke show in the future.

I hooked up my radar detector this way, so it works.

Thanks R/Truck,

If the wire going to the unit has a built in fuse...then I don't need one where I plug the wire into the fuse box...correct?

&

I can use any open fuse slot correct? It doesn't have to be a certain one?

Thanks,

Petey
