You didn't say how much power you were going to be using, but with 2 10's and 2 12's it's probably going to be significant. You shouldn't need a new battery, but you'll need a high output alternator.

Message: Hey thanks for the site.. whats a high output alternator? I'm gonna be running 4000W just to the woofers. I've got two amps right now. An 800W amp feeding a t.v. and DVD and I think my tweeters, and a 1200W amp feeding 2 10's right now and the rest of the speakers. Am I going to need another amp? Just let me know what you think.
Thanks

Message: its not how many watts your going to be using.. look on your amps and find the fuses.. add them all up and you will get a picture of how many amps you will have to be producing to keep up with your system.. mine is using 110amps in fuses and works fine.. cept my ligts do dim..
but i put a 138 amp alt on my truck.. and i have no power ops so its all good.

Message: Also, if you're going to run all this power, not only should you upgrade the alternator output, but also get a capacitor and a power distribution block. This will put a fuse on each channel of power coming out of the block, and the capacitor will help to ease the strain on your electrical system. For a multiple amp system with as much power (watts) as you've stated, I would recommend a 2-farad or greater capacitor.

Message: Hey thanks for the advise guys.
UTOYPIA - I did some measurements the other day in the back seat. If I take them out, I'll have almost 48" in length, about 24" in height which will be right below the back window, and then just about 15" in width from the back of the cab to where the seats end. So i'll have a pretty big box and alot of space to work with.
To everyone else thanks again for your input.

Message: You do realize that the 10"s have to be a completely seperate air space from the 12"s I hope. Personally I go with four 10" instead of a combination of speakers, you get a better overall sound quaility that way.
My question is how did you get an 1/0 power cable thru the firewall to power the amps?!? Like PopGenie said, your pushing some serious power there :o

Message: do you have the older, round, solo's or the squares? if i were you i'd just get rid of the 10's and put 15's in the ext. cab. building a box is easy just make sure you take into consideration the port volume into your box. I used to have a website that would even calculate all that stuff for you but i can't find it right now....anyways..if you need help calculating your port length or whatever msg me and i'll doublecheck your numbers or explain to you how to do it

Message: Wow a TV and DVD in a ext cab. So the whole backseat is filled with you equipment. And you are putting the DVD screens where... Dont forget to bold the lawn chairs down in the bed because all that in that truck is a little over kill.
Now that I have got that you of the way. I friend has a setup where he has had a custom bracket made and a 2nd alt. Running to another battery. Cost him a crap load but if you want 4000w sure money isnt a issue.
I thought about how mothers feed their babies with tiny little spoons and forks, so I wondered what do Chinese mothers use? Toothpicks?

How do you have a tv and dvd player hooked up to your amp? They run off DC 12v not 800 watts...
2 10's and 2 12's is a bad idea. Run same size subs or it doesn't work right. Different size subs use different size boxes and play different frequencies.
utoypia
There is a ton of room in a dakota cab, IF you use it wisely. I have amps, tv's, vcr, cd changer, PS2, a 10.5 cube box, battery rack and even a nitrous bottle ALL in the cab.
JMII
I ran my 1/0 under the truck and secured it with straps used to hold pipe. I also hooked my isolator up under there and then ran 1/0 to my battery tray inside the truck and then split off to all my equipment.
Justin
Got a brand and model or the parameters for the sub? Every 15 is different. Some are made for sealed boxes, some are made for ported boxes, some can be used for both but the volumes and port areas are all different for different subs.
Tinybaum
Don't be a hater! And your friend probably got ripped. What size are the alts? Seems silly to have 2 HO alts and only 2 batterys... I can get a pair of 300 amp alts with pulleys for under $600 and the brackets you can make yourself if you have any mechanical inclination.

BIGTYMER: Hey man, when are you gonna post some pics of your truck or send them over. I keep hearing of the awesome work you have done to your truck, but haven't seen it yet. I'm not hatin, just interested.
joe_himself: I just want to point out that you can actually find out amp draw using watts.
Peak Wattage divided by average operating voltage= Amp draw
in numbers for MnMELite,
4000W/14.4VDC=277.77A
Now anyone knows that this is a HUGE amount of current draw. This would fry a stock charging system instantly. Now lets say you could wire 5 optima batteries to produce a 60V source. Each battery would now only see a 66.66 amp current draw. Since we are talking enormous power and even more money, lets assume that MnMeLite fabricated the brackets and bought the 220A Stinger alternators (two). This totals about 440 peak amps, minus about 100 for operating the truck, so your at around 340 amps peak. More than enough to run your stated 4000watts. At least until you overheat those poor alternators from running them at peak current for long periods.
Ok, now I am going to take a breath and also take an asperin, cuz that was a lot of crap to say in one post. Good luck

In my 98 i have a 60/40 rear seat both flip up. the only way i could see to fit my two 12s was to remove the 60 and bold my box to the seats hinged brackets and screw the amp to the box between the box and the side of the truck. its not practical to have a person sit behind you in a backseat that small anyhow. plus the box can lift up slightly creating a secret compartmeant
