I have recently purchased a new Kicker S15L7 and they said that it would hurt the sub to only wire one voice coil. It says to have both coils hooked up at the same time. I am not sure what is will do if both are not hooked up.

Robert
A vented box would be your best choice when looking for a box. With the more air flow and air space you will get more SPL out of your sub.

You MUST wire both voice coils of DVC sub. Go to Kickers website and download their tech manual (PDF file). It will show you how to wire it to various ohm loads.

As for which box will sound the best... pure personal preferrence. I think ported boxes sound too "boomy". Not to mention the fact that some subs are optimized for a certain kind of enclosure - best to contact the manufacture of the sub and ask them. Just sticking a sub in ported box is not the answer. Ported boxes are complicated, screw it up and your speaker will sound like crap or worst you could blow it.
