Subject: anyone used a 6.5 inch bazooka tube? IP: Logged
Message: I have the infinity sound system in my 2002 quadcab and it sounds pretty damn good, I just would like a little more low end. I was wondering if anyone has every used a 6.5 inch bazooka tube. I've heard the 8 and 10 inch ones and although they sound nowhere nearly as good as subs in a box they were good enough for what am after. Is the 6.5 inch anywhere near say the 8 inch or is it a complete waste of money? 6.5 sounds pretty small but then again I'm just looking for a little extra oomph out of the low end not anything real big but something

Message: I asked this guy at a local stereo shop if a 6.5 inch tube would fit behind my driver's side rear seat and he said no but I remember a post where someone said they did this...can anyone confirm for me if a 6.5 inch bazooka tube fits behind the driver's side rear seat? I understand it probably wouldn't fold up anymore but atleast do all the bolts go back in place fairly easily?

Message: They just can't play as low as the 8+ size ones, that's the only real difference. Since you asked, in my opinion, MY opinion mind you, they aren't worth their cost by a long shot unless you get them really really cheap. But then if they fit your needs, its all good.
Another option, just something to think about, would be to get a single or pair (can't remember if theyre sold in pairs or not) of Focal 7W's, they're a midbass driver, but can play remarkably low for their size (7" driver). They can be played freeair or in a small small box (bout .15 ft^3 I think), and if you put them on say, a us acoustics USX 2080 (very good budget amp that actually puts out its rated power all the time) they'll sound damn nice, bout the same as an 8" sub setup.

Message: Just a note, I found out they do sell them individually so getting a single one is possible. I dunno where you can find one but if you'd like I can ask and find out within a couple hours (if you even see this before then, hehe)
And I think they run no more than 150 for one, with the USX2080 amp being had for 85 bucks + shipping, I dunno how much the bazooka tube costs but I bet it's pretty damn close. Or, if you want a PAIR of 7W's you can get a usx2100 for 125+shipping (and have 100w per speaker)and have a damn strong low end compared to what the bazooka would give.
For your purpose though, one would probably be adequate, on the 2080(bridged for a total of 140w for the single speaker)
As for where to find them, I'm lookin into that right now just because I've been considerin them for midbass drivers anyway..

Message: thanks for the info, definitely sounds like an option worth looking into. Does freeair mean that it would be like sitting on the ground? I've never seen or heard of that before, have you ever heard one free air? What's the drawbacks to that setup? If I went with a small box would I just have to go to a stereo shop and have a custom one built? A custom box+sub+amp would be more than the $299 150watt namplified bazooka tube I'm considering but if you really think it would sound dramatically better I could maybe scrap together the extra cash.

Message: Well with freeair you CAN have it just lay on the floor, might roll around a bit tho with driving and all, best bet would be to take a small piece of wood and set it up to where it's secure back there behind the seat and just cut a hole on it, so that you don't actually have a box, but like one side of the box, just to hold the driver secure. If you were going to do a single 7W, I still haven't found one but I know they exist :) so let's say that was 150, and the usx 2080 is 85, if you have just a jig saw and drill you can make your own box, since it'll be so small you would really only need 1/2" MDF, and can get a small sheet of that at Home Depot for less than 10 bucks (you wouldn't really need much, a 2'X4' sheet would be plenty), wood glue for 3 bucks, and about 15 screws for no more than 5 bucks. If you don't have the space to do that though, or the tools, then yeah you will need a shop to do it, and it will end up costing more than the bazooka, I didn't think about that, I always just think of the cost with me myself doing all the labor.
The 7W's do sound good, but then if you were happy with the sound of the bazooka already, there's no point in paying more for something that is more than you need.
