well i have a 98 and it was very simple. just yank it out. there are lotsa clips that you have to pull out, but no screws, some of the clips are pretty tough to get out, but they'll come out with a lil umph. good luck

The dash is held in by clips. Just pull gently and they should come out. You may have difficulty clearing the steering column so lower your steering wheel/Tilt it, as far down as possible and shift your trans nob into the lowest gear down. That should help clear your dash of anything that would block it coming out. It's possibly the easiest dash to pull apart.

FYI, since the dash is so easy to get apart, and if your worried about Receiver theft, you might want to replace the factory mounting screws with security HEX head screws. This might just save your radio one lonely night.

Hex Heads are easy to match up, most hardware stores have a good selection in the thread size of the factory screws. Finding a matching head shouldn't be a problem. For those that want to spend a few extra dollars there are kits with screw heads, and a few special screws that most people can not even get at with the smallest of standard drivers. The goal here is not to make it impossible to remove, but to make it obvious to the theif that this is more trouble than its worth. NOTHING can beat the safety of a removable face plate, but if you can't have that, then this is the next best thing. If your dash board were more complex and tougher to remove I wouldn't even suggest it, but since ganking Dak Decks is possibly the easiest car to rip one out of, this is a good suggestion.

All in all... its worth a look around. If you can't find a special screw, then use a threaded bolt and a socket head, most radio perps don't carry one.

Thank you for the help Mr Sleepy. I have a removable face plate but would like to keep the deck all the same..

I will have to go and see what I can find out from where I get all my installs done and see if they have one there or can give me the thread pitch and size.. then I can goto the hardware store and goto town..

i know the Gen 2 dakotas dash setups are a pain in the @$$ to remove because theres like 8 screws and they are torx from the factory. As for the newer ones, yea, just clips, like on my old neon that i bagged myself a 15 point buck with... took me 30 seconds flat to take the dash off, pull the stock stereo out and disconnect it, and slide in my new unit once it was ready....

it got broken into one night and the perp even took the time to reASSemble my dash for me.... bastard anywho.... if i find him, he will pay.

it was a nice one too... kenwood KDCMPV7019 MP3 and all
