Subject: New Speaker Question IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97' Dak Regular Cab and want to replace the stock infinity speakers. I just installed my new Head Unit, an Alpine 7876. Here is what I am thinking of getting for speakers:
Front (6.5"): Infinity Kappa 60.3cs (components)
Rear (5.25"): Infinity Kappa 52.3i (coaxial)
Do you think this setup will sound good in my truck? What kind of amp and how much power should I get to power the speakers? Should I power both sets or just the components?

Message: That's a nice Alpine radio Paul. I have been thinking about getting the 7875 myself.
Your head unit has a good amount of power with 60x4, that is peak power and rms will be about 25x4. You COULD run those Infinity's with just the head unit, but to get the most out of them, I would run an amp with around 75 watts rms per channel to the components. I personally would drive the rears with the head unit, and a two channel to the front components. I say this because I always like a set up with a front soundstage with only a small rear fill and since your HU has good power, just run the rears off of it.
As far as which amp to run for the components...Alpine V12 series seem to be very clean amps. I am trying to make the same decision right now on a component amp and I'm leaning toward the Alpine but still open for suggestions.
My cousin has the Infinity Kappas all the way around in his Dak and it does sound good but I like the ringing highs of a titanium dome tweeter so I'm thinking about the MBQuart components.
Hope this helps and let me know what amp you decide to go with.

Message: As a former owner of Kappas and a current owner of the Alpine 7876 and V12 amp let me suggest a few things.
Don't worry about hooking up an amp to the back speakers, they will quickly over power the front ones (since they are closer to you ears) and it will bug you.
Listen to the Kappas first, they are a very high speaker in that they often give me a headache with there crispy sounds.
I have an old MRV1000 powering some components up front and it puts out about 150 watts x 2 and the speakers suck every bit of it up. So make sure you get an amp that can produce some big sound (but be careful of inflated numbers).
