Subject: Want a better Factory Deck? Heres how!

Okay... so you have a factory radio and your not happy with it, but you don't want to mess around with aftermarket problems and hassles. Keep in mind this will only work if you have your truck still under warranty! Go to any radio repair shop and talk to the owner. Let him know that you are looking to buy a broken premium radio that fits your car. Buy it when/if he has one for a few bucks, install it, then bring your car/truck in to have the radio worked on. Dealerships will always replace the radio if its broken. They will never check to see what your car orignially came with, they will only replace what they see, and if its a premium radio... a NEW premium radio you will get. Worked for me and I only spent about 10 bucks for the broken radio and I got myself a CD/Cassette premium radio that I installed without a problem.

IMPORTANT! Make sure that the Premium radios Harness does not differ from the harness that your truck comes equiped with! Some models may differ depending on year.

I dunno, that sounds a little dishonest. Why waste moo the time swapping out one pos head unit for another just to deceive the dealership?

I guess you missed my point. The whole purpose behind this is to give someone, who might be stuck with a non-CD factory radio, or crappy stock radio a cheap way to get the premium OEM radio. Quite a few people out there would love to get the better radio for certain reasons, this is a way how to do it. And considering it would take you about 200-300 bucks to purchase the premium radio from the dealership, or 50-100 bucks and deal with some one privately, this is a much cheaper way of getting what you want. In effect this is not fraud or cheating considering that the broken radio used to be in someones truck, and is regardless of possession is broken and in need of repair. This is simply repairing someone elses radio.

You can call it what you want.... but if your truck is not out of warranty, its perfectly fine. Perhaps you like to bend over and take it up the butt financially but I sure as hell don't. Its bad enough trucks are hideously overpriced without have duddley do-rights like yourself spreading your self righteous filth over someone elses post. Don't like what you see, don't read it. And its not illegal.

How about this. Let's say you buy a playstation and it breaks a year later. You then moo buy a new playstation, put the broken playstation in the box and then return it to the store the next day. Is that fraud? Same exact situation you're describing. Just because moo the dealer might not catch on or check your options against the VIN doesn't make it any less immoral.

Most dealers when they order warranty replacemenet parts, they have to order using your VIN number. They will order what the computer tells them to by what your VIN says. If your VIN comes up as POS radio, then you get the POS radio. Also, if you didn't have the Infinity system from the factory, then even with the top o the line head unit, you still don't have the infinity system because you are missing the better speakers, the tweeters in both doors, and the infinity amp. So you are still stuck with eh POS sounding stereo, but you have a POS stereo that plays CD's I guess.

You would be surprised how many times the dealer doen't use the VIN to re-order parts. Many times the mechanics just pull the part, walk it down to parts and places a order for a duplicate. This little scheme has worked for 2 of my friends, and yes, despite not having the infinity amp, the fact of the matter is... it now has a CD player. And besides, anyone giving two strokes and a squirt about their radio isn't going raise a fuss about missing a Infinity amp.

i think what you are talking about is dishonost and doesn't speek much for your character.
just because you either didn't want to, or couldn't, spend more money for the stereo you wanted doesn't meen someone else should have to. how whould you feel if you owned a business and your customers were scamming you?

don't come back with some lame excuse about dealerships scamming you everyday, it's always your choice to patronize them.

remember, charma is a b!tch and sooner or later it will get you back for your dishonosty.

I seem to remember all 3 local dealerships telling me that the strange odor coming from my AC unit was normal... Until my evaporator coil and blower motor went up in smoke well after my warranty did. I think they owe me one, and the rest of you one as well, considering of course that all of you will suffer the same fate due to factory defective drainage tubes.

Your preaching good ethics to me? Try your dealer first!

Everyone knows that satan is not to be trusted. You should have had it checked out by an independant if you knew something was fishy about the A/C. Dealerships are moo like cops, they don't actually have to do anything until after something happens and a dealer will charge you plenty at that time. What you proposed was defrauding the dealer and though tempting, is not what a moral person or bovine ought to be doing. Oh and get an extended warranty, even a dumb cow like moo me was smart enough to get one.

I got it. I didn't order 4wd with my truck. Maybe If I put the 4x4 stickers on it, buy a switch for 50 bucks to put inside the truck, and take it to the dealer and tell them the 4wd isnt working right, they will replace everything for FREE!!!!

Get a %@#$ing job and but an aftermarket cd deck. You can get one for 100 bucks that will have more power than the infinity.

Be on the lookout for a sleeper Dakota. Like Mopar can't run a check on someone replacing a faulty head unit in the past 30 years. Dodge does read these boards you know.

At least screw Japanese companies but man keep USA profitable. We don't want an Enron Mopar, do we?

Not all dealers are out to screw you. Since I've owned my R/T in Feb '99 I've only had one bad experience at a dealer, and I have never been back there since. The dealer I bought my truck from in Nebraska was awsome. And the dealer I use for service here in Cali, has never had a problem working on my truck, and has reasonable rates as far as I'm concerned. They even quoted me the lowest price for a control arm bushing install when I was pricing them.

Why not spend the $ & go buy a good aftermarket CD headunit. The stock headunits are junk anyway. It's not like you can upgrade with the stock headunit & get any good sound out of it anyway.

If it was 5 mins labor and $0.50 for the bulb, why didn't you leave, fix it, then continue the deal?

Just a question...

I don't understand why this is turning into such a controversial thing. So he wants to scam someone into giving him a new deck, big deal. Let him post what he wants and if people want to try this too, let them. Someone will eventually get caught. I also don't think you all need to patronize him about his moral because that probably won't change them.

I got the premium Infinity sound system when ordering my 95' Dakota new. Shortly after purchase, I noticed that about 10 of my CD's were skipping at about 2 to 3 minutes into the 2nd track. There was even a physical ring on the data side of the CD. Chryslter repaired the CD-Player. Did not replace it. I spent three weeks driving around with a boom box and a hole in the dash. I eventually got reimbursed for the CD's that were damaged.

I haven't had any problems with CD-Player since, but the buttons no longer work correctly. I may press the seek button and instead the unit starts ejecting the disk.

I know that the newer models have different head units. I have a 00 Durango and the unit in it seems a little better, but still don't compare to the aftermarket stuff thats available.

Doing scams like that are exactly why honest people end up spending extra cash for things. I guess you would also condone scamming insurance companies? Or possibly even selling drugs, I mean its only a small scam that cheats uncle sam out of a little money right? How would you feel if you were selling something and someone scammed you? I guess the reason this has gotten into such a debate is because of something called ethics!

You are an absolute scam artist!!! I hope no one you know trust you! What you buy is what you get. If you buy a piece of junk like you have, a tape deck is all you need anyway. Buying USED parts and replacing them and then having warranty replace them with new is ABSOLUTLEY AGAINST THE LAW! I deal with these radios all the time and am, I guess you could say, a "Hi-Roller" with the Chrysler dealership. So I hope If I can't track you down through email and server connections that someone else will so you will pay FULL PRICE AND PROBABLY A WHOLE LOT MORE for this RIDICULOUS SCAM OF YOURS!!! -The WORST of luck to you, beware.

You are not only screwing Chrysler , You are also screwing the Parts Guy that prolly makes 20k A year out of his commision when the radio/warranty claim gets kicked back for returning/installing the wrong part , The service writer trying to make it and feed his 4 kids on 20k a year out of his commision when the claim gets denied , The tech that got fired for putting in the wrong radio and not checking the number against the VIN . SO Think about it , How are you really screwing here ? The BIG chrysler corp or the little guy like us that really pays for it ??

don't know how many other forums you guys visit, but i've seen a similar story posted about a guy with a WRX trying the scam the dealers on several sites....his story goes something like this.....

he has a 02 WRX, bolts on a ton of air mods(intake parts, exhaust and replaces the extensive up/downpipe network with much better flowing units)..then he turns the boost up to 18lbs...does nothing in the form of ignition/fuel management......needless to say, he blows piston #3 through the block..limps it to a dealer and they refuse to fix it....he takes it home, puts everything back to stock and goes to another dealer who agrees to fix it(ie, replace the whoel engine)...he posts online bragging about it, but little does he know someone from the dealer the car is sitting at reads the post, calls his manager and Subaru of America and reports it.......so now the guys car is sitting at the dealer blow engine and all, and is currently being prosecuted for somehting along the lines of warranty fraud........

if you want to do something like this, that's your business, but posting it on the 'net isn't a good idea.....
