Subject: Anthony's 2x10" custom box: any tips? IP: Logged
Message: Just looking for anyone who can offer a little bit of insight into the construction and installation of Anthony's dual 10" box for '92-'02 CC Dakotas. I'm hoping to begin this project for my '99 on the coming weekend, I was hoping you folks might be able to give me some advice. Anthony's webpage is unfortunately being blocked by Yahoo just now (stupid transfer limits), so I can't check all the stuff I'd like to just now.
My main concerns are...
1) Removal of the tool box and such. What all did you yank out, how'd you do it, and what would you have done differently?
2) Rear seats. Did you adjust yours much, or at all? How'd you ensure they'd be functional? Any complaints from passengers?
3) Adaptability. Assuming I'm going to go just retarded with my 10's here, I'll need some decent mounting depth. Will increasing the depth of the box to accomodate a sub with at least a 6" mounting depth butcher my chances at retaining any rear seat usage?
Thanks for any and all help! I'm eager to hear any suggestions, warnings or tips, so fire away! Feel free to email me at: cryptic_minstrel@hotmail.com
Thanks again,
-John

Message: I hate Geocities when they shut my site down like that, what a bunch of a$$es. I just checked it and now it works.
1) I never did remove the tool tray, I built the box around it. I cut the storage tray out and left the cup holder in. The pics on my site show what I did. The other who build the same box as me did the same, you can see there versions in my links section.
2) Height of the box should be kepted as low as possible for the easy of the passenger. Measure the sub depth add thickness of mdf which is 5/8"x2 plus leave a 1.5"-2" backspace from the magnet of the sub to the back of the box. For air movement and for polyfill.
3) 6" mounting depth would be fine, you will still be able to retain your seat usage. Your going to have to experimemt alittle do get the height that will work for you.
When building this box make sure that when it comes time to install it that it's not rubbing anything that can cause noises and/or squeeks. Make sure to stuff the box with polyfill this will make the subs perform better and hit harder.
Most important if these back seats are going to get used alot make sure to mount them, GOD forbit you get in an accident the rear passenger WILL go flying. I almost never use my rear seats, so mounting them wasn't a worry for me.
Check out my site for more info and pics on my setup. If you do have anymore question(s) I'll be glad to help.
Later,
Anthony
