Subject: RC subwoofers?? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 99' Regular cab dakota r/t, and i have a set of 10' JBL subs that i would like to throw in there. Have any of yall put subs behind the seats? Is ituncmofortable, do you have to ride with your seats in a uncomfortable position? I would do some measurements myself, but my truck is in the shop for the next week or so. Will an amp fit under the seat, or do i need that back there also? Any ideas will be helpful, any links to pics of custom setups will too. Thanks

Message: i've got amps under both of my seats in my reg cab dakota.
i had two 12" kenwoods behind the seats, with no problems, and i'm 6'1"
but it all depends on the air space req'd.
I moved up to a kicker solobaric L7 12", and the air space went up.
it's still got enough room, but it takes some fiberglass work to get it right.
I've got some pics of the kenwoods, email me @ a_lobbestael@hotmail.com
I't try to get pics up of the kicker as well

Message: I have two 10" MTX behind the seats of my 2000 RC Dak and im 6'3". I usually sit with my seat in more of an upright position anyway so its comfortable to me. So if your the same height or shorter i say go for it. BTW my amp is mounted on the box right between the two seats. If your interested there are some posts of a mod that takes out the center arm rest and that little bit of seat and converts it into a box for a single 10 or 2 10's.

Message: My system is a little more xtreme then others..LOL but it is tru.. it isint good to be having your subs hit the back of your seat.. if they wanna move more out but they cant because the seat is there.. it isint good on the sub..
and besides it distorts some of the sound you might be getting other wise if it wasnt hittin your seat..
Take the stereo to the xtreme

Message: well....... in theory if you make the box a little smaller and mount it against the seats, it should act as a band pass to a degree. The air space I got is 2.5 with 1k watts @ 2ohm to them. It acually hits louder with the seats against them than moved away by a dbl. Get this, doors open and seats moved up... 2 dbl less. I just don't ask anymore. Also I recessed the subs into the box so the cones have more room to move. The subs I got have all the room to move. Bad part is I had to find subs that have a REALLY shallow mount depth which is why I went with Orion N/T.
The only bad part about them is that it makes you wanna pee when the bass hits. Also my kidneys aint doin soo good nether

Message: I was just wondering what the dimensions of the box that pappie1 has in his dak are. If these could be posted, i would appreciate it. Been running into problems with boxes for my rc dak, and this looks like the way to go. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Message: For extra room in the area on a regular cab, take out the carpetted peice out of the back, fill in the upper body piece in with foam, use silicone to "mold" the boxes to the back, without the carpet in there, i fit 2 12" RF punch HE back there without a problem, with plenty of room.
