Subject: speaker box detail IP: Logged
Message: hey guys, I have built a speaker box for 4 JLw4's. It's in my club cab and takes 7.2 cu.ft. I want to paint a couple sections the intense blue that my truck is. My question is, I want to get a shinny finish on my 3/4" MDF. Any tips on how to make the paint shine on MDF?

Message: The problem is, if you sand the wood, you open up the grain to suck in the paint, right?. The paint that I have used so far has not been able to produce a shine. Granted it's just spray paint, but it all gets soaked up in the wood(MDF). I am also wondering how to fill in the screw holes without creating spots from different material under the paint. Some sort of resin sounds ideal. That I sould see would give me a shine.

Message: Just spray it with polyester high build primer. You can get it from your local body shop supply shop. It is about $25 a quart or $50 a gallon. A quart will go a pretty good ways. You can build it up as much as 1/16 of an inch to cover any pits or defect you might have in your box before you paint it. You spray it on with an air gun and compressor. Just sand it with 250 grit followed by a good wet sand. This stuff sands like chalk. When done, just take it for paint.
Hope this helps,
Shane

Message: just a thought.....could you coat the whole thing with a thin layer of spackleing(sp)/drywall mud? I'm not sure if it would stick to wood or if it did....once you started bumping.....if it would flake off? Just a thought that went through my head.......

Message: All you need to do in order to create the luster in the finnish you want is as such: First, You must and I mean must saturate you liver with at leas six quarts of Gatorade or Powerade. This enables the body to produce vast amounts of viscous liquids. Second. This is not a must but I prefer it. Get a good nasty pornographic video of women doing unthinkable things with a wine bottle. Thirdly, a damp rag for clean up. And last but not least, Masterbate feverishly into the solution of your choice. Let sit for 2.5 seconds and then apply to the area. Before you know it you box will glissen with shine.
