Subject: Audio question...

Hello all from sunny Tampa, Florida. I Recently bought a 98 Dakota SLT 2wd, 3.9, pretty well loaded but all stock. What a nice truck (its my first dodge, and I am a "MOPAR nut in the making", so I am excited)!!!!
I am new here, and I have thought of my first question.

I believe the AM/FM Cassette player in the truck is stock, but I am not sure about the speakers just yet, but I can only assume they are also stock. Seems like when I am driving down the road, for no apparent reason, my radio will stop functioning. When it does this the time display on the radio may change to the station numbers, or stay with the clock (time standing still), or total jiberish, or a single line or 2 on the display. Now, turning it on and off does nothing (the display will read the same thing in the off position). When I do turn the truck off, or manually turn the radio off, I hear a somewhat audible "pop", as well as the display still stays the same. Eventually when my possessed radio decides to come back on. The radio may work for a day, or 5 seconds before it does it again.
Its slightly irritating. Anyone else heard of such a thing or care to give advice?????

Get a new radio, or check your wiring. If it is wired correctly and all connections are good, then proceed to the local stereo shop and still get a new radio. Cassettes are the 8-tracks of the 80s.

My wifes 97 Cherokee did the same thing with about 5000 miles on it.

Dealer swapped the unit out, it was bad.

Sounds like the head unit. Could be a good time for an Am/Fm/Cas/CD. It's not a bad job to swap them out. But if you want an Am/Fm/Cas from my 98 that I swapped out. I can sell it to you.

Yeah, I think a CD player is the right move. Thanks for the replies.
