Message: Go with a pair of kenwoods. I'm not sure of the model but they only offer a few. I have a 96 Dak and have them along with alot of other stuff. they will give you very good sound for arround $150.

Message: Yea he could do that but he would not get the same sound quality as the 5X7. I found a model number for you. Try the KFC-5708c or the Excelon model the 5708's are $60 on crutchfield.com If you can find the Excelon's they will be arround $150 thats what I have in my Dak

Message: I have had both, I'm just not a big fan of oval speakers. 5 x 7 has to be the worst speaker ever made IMHO. Bose uses 5 1/4" subs in there top of the line home surround sound systems, and you see them all the time in award winning car audio installations. You never see 5 x 7s or 6 x 9s or 4 x 6s in any high end speaker systems cause they have sound quality issues. But I will get off my soap box so you fellows can get back to your business.

Message: Go to www.partsexpress.com. They have a plastic adaptor that lets you easily mount 6x9s in place of 5x7s.
Brandwise, I have Pioneer Premier 5x7 two-way speakers in the back of my 93 CC. They sound much better than the 6-1/2s (same brand and style) I had installed to replace the stock speakers. They complimented the two 10"s I had quite well, and for the past year, they handle the low end without the subs decently too.
Unless you are really going for an very loud or acoustically correct sound, oval speakers are fine though.

Message: Speaking of 5x7s, I have a 95 Pathfinder that has speakers that must go. Unfortunately replacing them seems to be a chore. I can't find any replacements for the stock Clarion 5x7s and it is getting frustrating. Space is an issue, at least with the ones in the rear headliner.
Any suggestions? (No I am not going to buy another car)

Message: MB Quart makes some nice 5x7s. They're a tad spendy, but they sound great. The louder you turn it up, the clearer they get. Just do a search on MB Quart and check them out...

Message: Whats the deal with 5x7s? I have an 84 celica with stock 5x7 brackets, and finding speakers to fit them seems to be a nightmare. Why are they so much more expensive and harder to find than 6x9s? Especially considering that most have frequency ranges of around 70-22k when 6x9s can go a lot lower.
Is it worth paying extra for 5x7s, or should i just start drillin holes and get some 6x9s?
(im speaking from australia, i dont know what its like in the US)
