I just purchased a sound system for my 2002 Dakota Sport ext. cab which consists of:

Kenwood KDC-MP919 MP3 Player
Kenwood KFC-1787 6 3/4" speakers for the rear
Kenwood KFC-P703 6 3/4" components for the front
Kenwood KAC - 749S 40WX4 amp
and the Thunderform Loaded subs

Will the amp be able to power my fronts and the subs in the back or will I need another amp?

Also has anyone had any experience with these components? Any information will be greatly appreciated and helpful. Thanks a lot.

40 watts isn't a lot of power, but it would work, you just need a crossover to make sure the right frequencies are going to the right places. i would suggest another, more powerful amp for the subs.

Without knowing the particular specs on the amp I'd guess it could only run the door speakers to be safe.

However, if it can bridged then the mono channel could drive the sub with around 80 watts. Now if you still want to be able to fade the volume between the front and rear speakers (from the radio) you'll need all four channels for the mids, and thus another amp would be required for the subs.

I agree with Don on the addition of a crossover, maybe this amp has a built-in one? Send frequencies below 100Hz to the sub and stuff above 100Hz to the mids and they should be happy.

What size are the subwoofers? Not too familiar with thunderforms?

Assuming the thunderform has a 4ohm imp then you can bridge it to the last two channels of the amp. If the amp doesn't have a crossover for ONLY THE TWO REAR CHANNELS you can't do it. You need to not have those subs play over around 100Hz

Like Waltherone said... it depends on the ohm load of those two subs! If they are both 8 ohm then you can wire them up in parallel for a 4 ohm load on the bridged rear channels of the amp (they might be already configured like this). The subs would then receive 60 watts a piece. Put the low-pass crossover on the rear channels at around 100Hz and start bumpin'

Since the amp can drive a 2 ohm load in stereo (fairly common) you can actually run all FOUR of your mids off the remaining two front channels with the front hi-pass crossover set at 100Hz. They will get 30 watts a piece like this but you'll lose the ability to fade between them (front to rear). Just wire them the same as the subs - in parallel (+ to +)

I can send you a diagram of how to wire it if your confused. Just find out the ohm load of those subs BEFORE you do anything, since if they are 4 ohm speakers and wire them up you'll get 2 ohms and possibly a blown amp! :o If they are 4 ohms each you can still use them, just wire 'em in stereo - but they will only get 40 watts that way.
