Subject: Wiring Fans IP: Logged
Message: Quick question. where is the best place to wire some box fans to help keep my amps cooler. Can I wire them into the remote lead so that they only come on when my system is turned on?? If so will my remote provide enough amperage to run 2-4 small fans and still turn on my amps? or do I need a relay. I don't want to run a switch if I don't have to. I am trying to keep it as simple as I can. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Message: Hey Dak-five-oh you should be able to run them to your remote wire thats the way myself & friends hook them up. Thats much easier than running a switch for them. Thats my opinion anyway!!

Message: Depending on you have it isn't a good idea sometimes to do it onto the remote lead. The remote lead gives off less than one amp of power.
Just get a 12V relay, costs like 99 cents, hook the remote turn on on that to your stereo remote lead, and run a small wire for it to the battery. That way it's safe which is the most important..

Message: I would use a relay. If you don't, you run some risk of noise getting into your system through the remote wire. Also if you end up overloading your remote turn on circuit and popping the relay in your head unit its gonna cost you a decent amount of cash to get it fixed not to mention the down time without a stereo.

Message: I notice that the Amp over heats rahter quickly like wise with mine, 15-20 mins some times even 10 mins. So... I decided to go out and buy a 12v cooling fan. But I'm having trouble figureing out how to hook it up. Again I had a friend hook my system up so I'm not totally down on what you say above, but I do understand some of it. I know where the remote wire is and what not. I see where manny people say to hook it up to the remote wire, I was wondering if u could give me some what in depth detail on how to do that, like where the negative and postive go. or if u have a better solution to share with me. Thank you all very much

Message: Run the fans off a relay connected to the amp turn on wire or if the stereo is on all the time when your in the truck just run them off the accessory spot in yout fuse panel. Don't want them running when the stereo is off though as they will be loud.
If you can see the fans go with something like.............
Get them on Ebay at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3474379986&ssPageName=MERC_VI
Ebay is probably the best place to get the fans since they will probably cost less than $5 each,,, less if you do some shopping and get the plain black fans.
