Subject: Factory CD player hints/prices
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an 02 clubcab with the infinity speakers and a stock cass/CD player (option RAZ) and I know that I can install a 6 (maybe 10) disk changer but $550 from the dealer is WAY too much.

I want to know if anyone has any hints for installing (NOT RF) and/or prices they paid and where.

I want to upgrade to an aftermarket system, but in the area I live in, it would be stolen in a week so the stock look lasts longer.

Thanks

I believe Crutchfield.com has them for the factory head units.

What do ya have against the rf modulator models? I particularly like them because you can remove them when ya wanna trade in for a newer vehicle. I've own one for my own vehicle and also got a jvc 12 disc up for sale right now on ebay.

Yes, Crutchfield has the changer and the adapter. I was skeptical because all the stereo shops in my area said "oh yea we can do that" only to find out the adapter they had wouldn't do "quite everything". Crutchfield was awesome. Kenwood 6 disc changer model KDC-C667 and PIE adapter model CHRY02/PC-KNW delivered for $289.85. I too have the 02'QC with Infinity and steering wheel audio controls and EVERYTHING functions perfectly. The right center button on the steering wheel cycles through am/fm/cd/ and changer, while the left side cycles through changer discs or fm/am presets. I installed the changer completely under the left rear seat up against the rear wall. The seat still lifts and the floor space below is still all usable because the changer is tucked out of the way (very cool). Having my favorite discs in the changer while leaving the head unit available to quickly drop in a new disc is VERY convienent!

I have the same (RAZ) setup. Was the wiring already there for the CD changer or did you have to go into the back of the Head Unit?

MarkL, thanks, that was the info I was looking for. (Why is it idiots always respond when you specificly state that you don't want certain info -I.E. RF changers) By the way I don't have the steering wheel controls, but I can live with out them. Anyhow, thanks again.

Randy, I believe that the RAZ has a plug in the back of the head unit, but if you didn't get the optional CD changer then you (and me) will have to run wires along with installing a CD changer. But, it will just be a plug in, no splicing or anything. I've seen units on Ebay starting at $255, but Crutchfield usually includes detailed instructions, so you have to decide how comfortable you are with installing car stereo equipment.

Randy,

Yes Dark is correct. There was no existing wire from the head unit to the changer, but the adapter just plugs directly in to the back. I have installed lots of stereos in the past but I decided not to mess with taking apart the dash on my new truck, so I had Circuit City do the install for $60. DarkDak is also correct in that Cruthfield did supply very detailed installation instructions, including dash removal.

DarkDak; Your welcome, glad it helped. :)

hey DarkDak their are some 6-10-12 disc changers that all you have to do is run a ground, remote & power wire then pull your radio out hook your antenna plug to the changer & the change to the antenna plug on the back of the radio. thats how mine hooked up took longer to get the radio out than it did to hook the changer up. thought i'd let you know.

Jim
