Subject: stock deck warrany w/amp and sub IP: Logged
Message: Does anybody know if the stock deck voids under warranty if the wires have been cut/spliced? I have a converter hooked up to the stock deck for my amplifier and for some reason the deck hasn't been working. I was wondering if I could get it replaced under the warranty... anyone know or have tried??

Message: BTW - the deck and speakers have been working fine for over 5 months now with this set-up so its not a wiring problem (as far as I know).

Message: They should at least check it out , and let you know whats wrong. As long as you didn`t do anything to cause the prob., I would guess they`de fix it under warranty. They get paid a lot more to do warr. work than customer pay jobs , so any chance they get , the dealer will almost always try to warranty most problems.
I worked in the bodyshop at the local chebby dealer for almost 9yrs. , and you wouldn`t believe the things that got warrantied. It`s mostly up to the service manager.
BTW TallQuad , I`m working on my two boxes for my QC. The one behind the drivers rear seat is almost complete , just waiting for the subs to come in , so I can get the correct dia. for the speaker opening. Real PITA to have to keep taking the seats in and out , but should only be doing that one a couple more times! I`m making my own boxes and believe if you made the box an inch or so narrower , you could get that last bolt on. I`m not going to worry about it for now , as the box fits too good to mess with it.I made it a little taller , changed the front angle a bit , and cut out an indention in the rear left side of the box(if your looking at the front of the box) and it falls into place much easier than the Qlogic box dimentions did. I`ll take some measurements when everthing is done.
Good luck at the dealership.

Message: Thanks scott. Should I make the wiring look as close to stock again as possible and disconnect everything (as if it hasn't been messed with) or should I leave it the way it is before I take it to the dealer? I know they'll know either way... just thought if the wiring wasn't obvious they might just rip out the old deck and swap in a new really quick without question, ya know!
Can't wait to see your sub set-up! I'm still designing mine... thinking of a 10 on the 60 side.

Message: I`d probably just leave it the way it is , and just be upfront with them.Tell them what you`ve done and that you haven`t had any issues for over 5 months. If it was due to something you did , it would have happened right away. Also , if you get and crap from them and have more than one dodge or chrys. dealer in your area , try out a different one. I don`t know how picky Dodge is , but from my experiance at GM , the service writer or manager had a lot to do with how things were handeled. I`m afraid if you don`t tell them , they
might think your trying to scam something by them and may be SOL.
BTW the wife drove my truck today and doesn`t know why I`m messing with the stereo because it sound so good....can`t wait till she hears it when it`s done! I may never get it back.

Message: TallQuad, How`d you make out , or didn`t you have a chance to have it looked at yet?!
I`ve just finished both boxes and my amp & speakers came in today (late) so HOPEFULLY I`ll be finished this weekend...yea right. The boxes came out awesome! Hope they work as good as they look , too bad nobody will ever see them installed!
BTW.. I think I read where you explianed how to get the factory deck out (mainly how to get the plastic trim off). Is it just the 2 screws and a bunch of clips? I could have my 99 Dak. dash apart in around 10 sec. , because I did it so many times , but this will be the first time for this one , and everthing is different. Also do you remember what the colors of the factory wiring were I need to hook up my PAC and am not sure.
Thanks

Message: I haven't had a chance to let the dealer checkout the truck (i hate being without it). As far as the wiring... (if i remember) I used the 4 top left wires, as pull the deck out and look down at the top of the harness. The colors are:
blue/wht
blue/orng
brown/light blue
brown/yellow
I wish I could tell you what speaker and the polarity those are, but I can't remember. You'll figure it out though. I also hooked the amp on/off wire to the.......... crap..... I think the red/wht line?? Its the line that turns the factory amp on(w/infinity pkg). Check the forum, I think someone mentioned wiring recently. If I get to it this weekend I'll let you know, you'll probably beat me to it!
Wish I could help out more! I can't wait to hear how your system sounds. Where area did you say you were from? I might have to use the same dimensions as your box and try it in mine if it works out great!
Oh yeah, there are two screws near the speedo/gauges and then the rest is clips (remember to disconnect the A/C harness.) But before you do that, take off (or lower) the lower panel under the steering wheel... I think it has 2-4 screws. The deck has 4 screws.
Good luck!

Message: Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately I`ve just been put on hold. I was installing my amp under the pass. side seat , and was checking under the carpet for and wires , etc...well I found the padding under my carpet is SOAKED! I know it not from an outside water leak , as we`ve had no rain in months and the truck is always in the garage.
I`m sure it`s coming from the A/C somewhere because for the last 3-4 weeks I`ve been using the A/C more and have noticed water dripping on my hot exhaust. It makes a "popping" sound everytime it drips , so it`s very noticable. I just thought it was dripping from the engine compartment , apparently it`s dripping from the cab area and running down the firewall onto the exhaust.
So now I`ll be the one to make the trip to the dealer! I don`t want to install my system yet , because of the water damage potential to my equipment , and for fear of getting something damaged when they take out the carpet , or worse yet , not getting something back!
I am going to take the dash apart and at least find the wires (colors) I need. My buddy at the stereo shop let me use one of the wiring adapters that tell you what wire is what. I just have to put the plug next to the factory one and see what wire would be used , if I had to use the adapter. Then I`ll write it all down and give him the adap. plug back.
Oh yea, I`m in central FL. And I have all the dimensions for the boxes if you want them. The second box only took about an hour or so to build because I just used the dimensions from the drivers side box , and flipped them. I`ll try to take some pictures of the finished boxes and e-mail them to you if your interested.
Gotta go... Have to put some of my truck back together :(

Message: That sucks about the A/C. Its probably just the tube than drains the water out and its out of place. You might be able to fix pretty easy yourself if thats the problem???
That would be great if you could email me the dimensions and if you get a chance, copy the wire codes/colors. I think I know most of them but it would be nice to know exactly the correct wires! Let me know when your all set-up with the system and we'll swap emails!

Message: Well , it seems the more I look into my A/C problem , the more common it seems to be. I would suggest to anyone with a 01 or 02 Dak w/the 4.7 motor that they need to look at their pass. side carpet padding , I`ll almost guarantee that it is soaked too. I`m not sure these are the only year-and or-models , so it could be even more widespread!
O.K. , back to some of your questions...
I`ve finally got the correct adapter plug , so i have now figured out the factory radio harness.
Here it goes...
These are for my 02 QC with the Infinity System
PINK ...........POWER MEMORY
PINK/BLACK......SAME
RED/WHITE.......12VOLT POWER (SWITCHED)
GREEN/RED.......AMP REMOTE
ORANGE..........DIMMER
PURPLE..........????
WHITE...........????
BROWN/YELLOW....LEFT REAR +
PURPLE..........RT FRONT +
BLACK/LT BLUE...LEFT REAR -
DK. BLUE/RED....RT FRONT -
DK BLUE/ORANGE..RT REAR -
BROWN/RED.......LEFT FRONT-
DK BLUE/WHITE...RT REAR +
GREEN...........LEFT FRONT+
2 BLACK WIRES...GROUND
If anyone has different colored wires , or knows if any of these are not correct please let me know.
I think I fixed my A/C problem myself we`ll see in the next few days...I couldn`t get into the dealer until next week anyways.

Message: I finally got around to putting the amp and subs in this weekend...this is by far the best sounding system I`ve ever had for any amt of $$s.
These two 8s sound better than the 10s in my CC thunderform box! I still need to fine-tune it , I think right now I probably have too much bass...I need to listen to a broader range of music to get it just right. The boxes went in very easy compared to the Qlogic sized box I made first.
My dig. camera isn`t working for some reason so I didn`t get any pictures , but I do have the dimentions if anyone is interested.
One more thing , I guess the factory wire codes were correct because everything worket the FIRST time for a change. Also my A/C problem still seems to be fixed , I`ll have to wait untill it gets really hot again (soon) to know for sure.

Message: That sounds great! Maybe you can email the specs to me and the brands/types you used. I'm hoping that my current amp will work for all this (maybe 2 amps), we'll see. I still need to take my deck in (or buy a new deck...mp3??). I'm too busy to do anything for the rest of this month though. :(
Let us know when you get PICS!!
