Message: hi all I'm new here so bear with me
I just got my first Dakota, (97, 3.9 extended cab, automatic) it is supposed to have the nicer stereo system ( cd, 2 speakers and 2 tweeters in each door and 2 speakers on the back) my first problem is that the speakers sound like CRAP and there the Infinity speakers so any help with replacing them would be very helpful, my second problem is that I would like to install my AMP that I had in my old ranger and I'm not sure if it is possible with the stock head unit ( id like to install the speaker boxes too but that defeats the purpose of have any extended cab) and my third problem may sound stupid, but the am radio gets terrible interference if I'm driving under 40 mph. (I drive allot during the day and I enjoy listening to AM radio.) I still have my old JVC head unit but I was under the impression that the stock head unit was supposed to be very good. so any ideas should I loose the factory? and what about the speakers

Message: the factory head unit is underpowering the speakers, I replaced mine with a Kenwood 180 watt CD player.....22 watts rms per channel x4 and the speakers sound great now. Of course the dealers always use the lower end of a quality speaker manufacturer. You don't have RCA outputs on the factory head unit to install an external amp, you should have a small factory amp under the right kick panel in the truck that runs all 6 speakers.

Message: Hey TimeMachine, My 1998 Durango factory CD player did the same thing, it takes a long time to play burned cds or wont play them at all. It will only play Audio-CDrs not regular computer ones and even the Audio ones take a long time to load. ITs just the weak laser in the weak factory deck. Replace it with an aftermarket..even the $100 PIoneer is better and will give you RCApreouts for an amp or whatnot.

Message: the 97 infinity came with 65 watts per channel from a seperate amp so how would a 22 watt per channel ford head unit have more power? also there are 8 speakers in 6 locations not 6 speakers in a 97.

That "65 watts/channel" is peak power, at 10% THD. And that
head unit out of the Ranger is unlikely to be 22 watts/channel,
the cheaper ford units are like 8 watts/channel.
ITs just the weak laser in the weak factory deck.
No it isn't. The problem is that older (pre-2001) head units have
trouble with 80-minute CD-Rs. 80 minute discs have tighter
track pitch than standard 74-minute discs, and older CD mechs
have trouble with the tighter track pitch.

Message: Hey guys...I was hoping you could help me. I just spent a lot of money on subs and an amp for my chrysler sebring lxi which is equipped with a factory infinity system. Here's my problem: I am putting in a new jvc deck by myself..and found that while the factory deck works, the new one does not. This is something I have done many times before, so I am not messing up. We did check with other spare decks i had around and nothing works. Please help, I can not use my new amp and subs without having the rca jacks that are on a new deck. For whatever reason, because of the infinity amp I can not figure out how to get the speakers to recognize the audio from the new deck. Thank you!

Message: the deck doesn't even power up or you have no highs?....if it's the latter, you need to hook up the remote turn on wire...blue w/ white stripe.

Message: I installed a Pioneer DEH-1900MP (22w/ch) on my 350 Ram van with Infinity, but couldn't get any volume out of the front (none in back). Tried with the blue/white to the remote out of the stereo and to the yellow power, but still nothing. The speakers worked a few days ago. Do I need the amplifier? If not, how can I bypass it? Thanks!

Message: Loren-did you connect the blue/white wire from the Pioneer unit to the factory amplifier remote on wire in the van? If I remember right, the wire was green or maybe green with a black stripe. It was all the way at one side of the black factory plug with the speaker wires on it. If your van is a newer Dodge with the single molex radio plug, the wire may have changed color and location. It's a process of elimination to find the right one if the factory plugs are gone-first find the power wires, ground wires, illumination wires, then speaker wires, and about all you could have left is the remote wire for the amp. You have to trigger the amp before you will have sound. Good luck.
