Why do you need to bypass the amp? Is the amp defective and you need to connect the speaker wires direct to the radio? That can be done pretty easily but more info is needed here.

I just recently needed to replace the starter in my 2004 Dodge Durango it has the Infinity RSD audio system w/6 CD changer When I disconnected the battery to replace the Starter it hosed something with my CD changer player everything works fine except for the cd Changer player I have 6 really awesome Metallica CD's stuck in there and I can not get them out or play them any ideas on how to reset this Infinity stereo CD Changer Player system please let me know Thanks

Is it the indash cd changer or the radio and separate changer in the console or under a seat? If it's the separate changer you could try unplugging it and wait a minute then plug it back in and see if it ejects. I seem to remember they had a little reset button next to the eject button too. Might try that. You can also take a thin piece of plastic, like a driver's license and put it in under the bottom side of the magazine, in the center. Shove it in there and it will hit the mechanical release for the magazine.
If it's the indash changer, good luck. You might try disconnecting the battery again to reset it. Or read the owner's manual and see if there is a reset button on it somewhere. If that doesn't work you should take it to a good car audio shop and get it professionally done. Sorry but I am not very familiar with the indash changers.

I have a 1995 Dodge Ram (only 30,000 miles) with the infinity sound system that has full equalization and a cd player. System works great except that the display has gone blank. any ideas?

Hello, my 04 RAM 1500 infinity system amp went bad. Blows fuse as soon as you install it. I removed the amp amd it not longer blows the fuse. My problem is I cannot locate a good use amp. The Dealer wants $400. for a new one. Is there an after market amp that I can get that is a easy change out? If so a brand and model would really be great. I just don't have the big bucks for the OEM. Thanks for any help on this.

You could install an aftermarket amp in place of the OE Infinity amp. Be sure the new amp ia rated at least 20 watts per channel, not more than 50 watts per channel should do fine. You need a 4 channel amp for it and be sure it either accepts speaker level inputs or you can buy convertors to change the speaker outputs from the radio over to RCA low level inputs. You should be able to buy a decent amp and probably have it installed too for around $200 to maybe $250 depending on the prices where you live.
You could also find a good car audio shop in your area and have the OEM amp repaired. It sounds like it has a shorted power supply, which may cost less and be less work than buying a new amp.
You could also buy a new radio and instead of using the OEM or an aftermarket amp, just connect the speaker outputs on the new radio to the speakers in the truck. Aftermarket units nowadays have plenty of power for the stock speakers, possibly even more than the OEM amp had. Plus you will have much more sound control and most units nowadays have either a USB or an auxilliary input for an Ipod or MP3 player. You can get a really good head unit for around $200.00 and sometimes at Best Buy or an independent car audio shop they have deals for free installation. You will need a mounting kit for the new radio, an antenna adapter (I think, my 2003 Ram needed one) and a wiring harness for the installation. If you buy from crutchfield, I think they throw in the parts and installation instructions for free.
Those are a few suggestions. Let us know how it turns out.

I too am installing a new head unit into a 1995 jeep grand cherokee. New radio in, it turns on yet no sound from new speakers as well. I was running an external amp to try and push some subwoofers in the trunk. The remote turn on wire from the new head unit is hooked into external amp. there is a stock infinty amp under back seat driver side. I understand that there should be another remote turn on for this stock amp as well. 1) where do I find remote turn on wire for stock amp, wouldn't it be in the harness hook up already. 2) would it be easier to just bypass the amp?
Any suggestions or info would help me greatly.

If I remember it right, there should be a green wire that has an orange or red stripe behind the radio location. That's the remote on wire for the factory amp. If you used an aftermarket harness to wire to the new radio, there should be a blue wire with a white stripe on it. Connect it to the blue/white wire on the new radio to turn on the factory amp. If you did not use an aftermarket harness, that's OK. Once you find and connect the power and speaker leads, there should be 3 wires left over. There may be a black/yellow, an orange wire and the green/orange wire. The black/yellow and orange are illumination wires. The black/yellow will have voltage present with the pasrking lights and headlights on, and the orange one will too but the orange wire will have varying voltage on it as you turn the dimmer up and down. Tape these 2 wires up so they don't short out to anything and the only one left should be the amp remote on wire. There may also be a 2 pin plug if you had the factory steering wheel radio controls. You won't need those either unless your radio is built to interface with the steering wheel controls.

I have a 2001 dodge durango with infinity sound. i just replaced my door component speakers with pyle 400 watt set with custom crosovers. now what i need to know is the dimensions for the factory amp inside the kick panel so i can order the new one to fit in the space provided. also i ahve never bought a new amp before.. i the one i am looking at accepts the high level inputs.. but does the connector for the amp in come wiht it.. i know i need a harness for the vehical side but like i said i have always bought stuff from pawn shops before and parts were missing and i was using rca connectors... next step after this is to replace head unit. thanks for any help you could offer.. btw i have looked up wiring colors for my truck and all seem to be wrong.. i had in the drivers door a green with a light green strip and a green wiht a purple stripe.. no brown or anything... had to do the redneck test to find the positive...

The factory amp is not that big, it's about 4" x 6" and maybe 1 and 1/2 inch thick. You may have a hard time finding another amp that size to fit in the factory amp location. There are other places to mount an amp though, like under the back seat or in your cargo area. If you went ahead and replaced the radio too, it would be a lot easier and it would sound better too.

Jimmy, you are the man. I have a 2000 quad cab and I want to install a new amp and speakers. The amp I bought is an Alpine MRP-F300. It looked small in the picture but it is 10"w x 11"d x 2.5"t. Is it okay to install the amp under the front Passenger seat? Is there a better place to install the amp.? Thank you.

As long as there is enough room to fit the amp, it can get air circulation so it doesn't overheat and it or its mounting screws won't cause any problems with the truck, you can put the amp where ever it fits best. Be sure to somehow mount it firmly so it doesn't slide around or become a deadly projectile in a wreck. Quad cabs have less options for mounting locations, so if it fits under the seat and the seat will still slide and move OK then it should be fine there.

i have a 95 dodge dakota with the infinity sound system. i just replaced the stock radio with a cony explode. and you can just barely hear the sound now. i have tried numerous connections to try to get the amp to turn on and have tried locating it. is there a way to bypass it or activate it? all i want is some music. lol.

1995 models did not have the separate main amp in the passenger's kick panel. They had small amplifiers that were mounted to the back of the speakers instead. This sounds like either the turn on wire for the amp is not connected or the amplifiers are defective. If you used a mating wire harness to connect the Sony, be sure to connect the blue/white wires together to turn on the amps.
If you connected the amplifier remote on wire and still have no sound the amps on the speakers could be bad. Remove a door speaker and see if you have a large metal heat sink and a circuit board on the back of the speaker, they are round and fit around the magnet. If so, it is the amplified speaker system. The green and black wires in the middle on the speaker wire connection on the back of the speaker are the speaker inputs from the radio. Green is + and black is -. You could try removing the amp circuit board and soldering the green and black wires directly to the speaker terminals and still use the old speakers. But the best way to fis it is just replace the speakers. Use the green and black wires to connect the new speakers to the Sony.

Ok, I'm having a similar problem with an Alpine
deck. I'm putting it in a 99 Dakota with the
infinity stock amp. I've got it all hooked up and
I connected the remote power from the deck to the
wire for the amp on the truck and still getting no
sound. I know the deck is working right cause I
connected it to a spare speaker to check and it's
all good. But still not getting anything through
the stock speakers in the truck. Is there
something stupid simple that I'm missing here or
what? Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

i finally was able to get it working on my 95 dakota. i had to hook up the amp wire to the remote wire. and then there was one other wire that was similiar in color as the amp wire, and it had to be hooked up to the ground. once that was done, it all came on, hope that helps.

JD are you sure the remote on lead from the Alpine is working? Check it with a volt meter, should be 12 volts at .5 amps when the deck is on. Try plugging the OEM radio back in and see if you can isolate the problem to the Alpine deck. Also check the fuse for the amplifier.

Ok, I tried that today Jimmy. The remote lead from
the deck is giving me just about 12 volts. I went to
put the old deck back in an discovered something I
over looked before. The amp wire from the truck was
simply connected to a metal tab on the stock deck's
casing. It was just being ground out to the case if
I'm correct in that assumption. Would I just be able
to ground out the amp wire with the new deck or is
there something else I'm missing? Appreciate the
help big time. :)
