Subject: JA Audio 10" sub box
IP: Logged

Message:
This was 21 hours of headaches , followed by pure bass and joy!!! I took some of Anthonys measurments and had to make it a little bigger , I think my subs are deeper than the ones he used. I only have 1/8th of an inch between the magnet and the bottom of the box!! My sub box measures 48" long x 11" deep x 6" high. It fits , but just by a thread!! The hardest part was raising the rear seats 3" I used 3" galvinized nipples and 1/4-20 x 3 1/2 " bolts to do it.

The finished box is ugly , but it sounds GREAT!! nice tight bass just when you want it , and the mids and highs are just right!! I can turn the Pioneer up ALL THE WAY , with no distortion!!

Here is a pic of the nipples I used to raise the back seats.

And here is the box finished(gotta work on the look)

If your subs are rear vented..meaning there is s small hole in the back of the magnet to let heat out, you run a chance of cooking(honest cooking) your subs. They need some air to flow to cool the voice coils. Unless they are really funky with some side vents or liquid cooled...just my 2 cents.
Glad they sound great though, that the whole object right?

Nope , no hole in there. I've wondered about that before , never knew what they were for. I have never had any with holes in the mag,but I have seen them. Good to know for future projects!!

I forgot to add this pic, this is how he got the extra 3" he needed to make the seats work.

This is the same method I'll be using to mount my seats back. Thanks Ken!!!

Your welcom Anthony , if not for your help I would not have even tried to do this!! Wonder if people are seeing your pics? I can still see the ones I put on here?

I have an idea on finishing the front of the box. I need to find a large piece of plexi-glass about a 1/4" thick and a little bigger than the width and hight of my box. I think I'm on to something here , but I want to try it out next weekend. Should look very cool.

I was wondering what year the truck is that the box was put into. I have 02 CC and would like to do the same thing to it, so that my subs get off the back seat.

You have to cut and seal an angle on the bottom backside of the box. I could have sworn I had a pic of it , but I cant seem to find the darn thing! If you want to , E-mail me and I will look for it some more.

I found them. Here they are.( if I can get them to come up)

In the 2nd pic , the angle is under the input holes. You have to use ALOT of silicone in the corners to get a good seal. Or be alot better on a table saw than me!! which would not be hard to do , hehe.

Man , I don't know. I just found out what those are for , and my subs are only 1/8" off the bottom of the box. Not enough space to cool 'em. Lucky for me , mine didn't have those

Ken did you stuff your box with any polyfill??

This will increase your bass and your subs will play louder without bottoming out.

the polyfil fools your subs into thinking they are in a larger box. It alters the movement and refraction of the sound waves...it's a great way to cheat if your box is smaller than what is spec's.
as in you need .8cu ft for a a certain 12" but you have only .75 add the fill and it will work.

For those with the small space behind your subs please make sure the poly is not touching your subs spider or voice coil. or the HOLE in the back of the magnet.if the fibres get in there they could melt to the hot sub components. I like to spray some adhesive to the box walls then stick the poly to it so it keeps it away from the magnet and stuff. do not use pink insulation cuz that stuff alwasy comes apart and gums of subs.
