ok,i know dic all about stereos,so i have a question.i have the infinity system in my 02 r/t cc,and i have an audiobahn 12" and amp i want to add.i want to keep the factory deck, and not lose the infinity systems power to the factory speakers.a few people said that id have to splice into one of the infinity speakers, and that would mean losing the amp to those, but they didnt really sound sure of themselves.so the question is,can i install the amp and sub independently of the factory speakers with the factory deck?and if not, what are some other options?

Actually, I'm not impressed with it the Infinity system either and wouldn't have ordered it at the time when I ordered the truck. Anyone know the stock door and rear speaker size for an '02 R/T Club Cab. I'd like to replace with good quality 2 ways. appreciate it.

yes. If your amp has speaker-level inputs, then you can just take input from the rear speaker outputs right behind the deck. if your amp doesn't have these inputs, then you can use line-output converters.

Oversize 6.5". You can install pretty much any 6.5" if you get an adapter plate.

i appreciate your help jim,im wanting to figure this stuff out before i take it to a shop.i wanna make em think i know something so they dont try to screw me!and hooking the amp up the way you said wont affect the infinity amp or speakers?i really want to keep the good clean sound of the infinity speakers to go along with the added base of the sub.its a two channel amp thats being bridged for the one sub.

and im surprised that more people arent saying they like the infinity system,i think it sounds great!but i didnt really pay for it either,i got my 02 r/t for about $4500.00 under sticker.

What up ok, Bose, JBL, and Infinity are all ok upgrades compared to factory stuff. But they are a pain when you want to add something, most of them you need to bypass the amplifier and rerun all new speakers wires, unless you want a humming noise. Anything aftermarket is better that any of these systems. Just getting around them is the hard part good luck.

the 2000 300M has 360 watts spread over 9 channels, the 97 sebring has 150 watts the 03 concorde has 45X4 watts and the 2003 LHS and 300M have 320 watts into 9 channels, and the '97 DAKOTA THE NEW DODGE sales brochure states on page 12, "260 watts of 4 channel power," which translates out to 65watts rms per channel all are rated at rms so I really still have absolutelly have NFI what you are talking about. You come across like you know something, BUT when I double check what you say you are all hot air!

9 speakers, not 9 channels. Chrysler considers a coaxial speaker as "2 speakers".

And how do you know that 360 watts is RMS? What THD is that at?

"all are rated at rms"

None of the marketing material states that. You're just assuming. Hint: that's "peak" power they're quoting.

"so I really still have absolutelly have NFI what you are talking about"

that much is plainly evident.

"You come across like you know something, BUT when I double check what you say you are all hot air!"

unfortunately your "proof" has yet to prove me wrong.

I have a '95 with the powered infinity speakers and I added an amp and sub to the stock system without any problems.

The stock system didn't sound so hot, no lows or highs for one thing. The front two way speakers had a grill cloth over them that filtered out all the highs. I took out the speakers and ripped off the cloth and they sounded much better.

To add the sub I put in bass blocking capacitors in all four existing speakers. I tapped into the speaker connections (right at the speakers - after the amp) for both rear speakers. These go to speaker level inputs on a stereo amp that powers dual 10" subs. I used a series resistor and shunt capacitor to low pass the inputs to the amp, but an amp with internal filters would be better.

"the '97 DAKOTA THE NEW DODGE sales brochure states on page 12, "260 watts of 4 channel power,"
". Don't believe it. Dodge's power claims are completely full of it. Have you pulled out the speakers and looked at the amps? What a joke.

Mr. Jim Z--

Before you rip on someone, maybe you need to learn the new math... it's called 'double' checking your facts. The 300M's DO have 9 channels into Chrysler's "11" speakers. Yes they count 2-way's as two speakers, which means there are 11 speakers in 9 locations. So you are both right.
Also, the THD is under 0.1%. We know this because it is inaudible at normal listening levels, which is why infinity is one of the best systems in the industry. Even if it is just the low-end version. However, you are correct with the peak power of 360, not RMS. As we all know, no car would put that much RMS power into speakers without a dozen more generators, as the battery would go dead while we all listen to our REO Speedwagon cranked to 11.

On that note, isn't this a dakota site? ;)

I just have a couple of real quick questions with installing an aftermarket deck and sub.

My truck is a 97 Dakota Club, it has the Infinity system, but no components in the doors (not sure if there is a difference between the 2)

I've been to two different installers locally, and they've told me 2 different things in regards to aftermarket decks. Dealer 1 said that I would need to buy a voltage regulator since the factory system already had an Amp, dealer 2 said I just had to connect the remote lead to the wiring harness. This thread also seems to have implied that it is necessary to run a lead to the amp itself. Which is the case?

Is the amp connected via speaker level inputs or Coax/RCA?

Anyone have suggestions/opinions/whatever regarding the MTX thunderforms for this truck? Namely, would you suggest going with an unloaded box over a loaded/unpowered box over a loaded/powered box? (Gonna install the 12 out of my old car for the time being, just want to know what others thought)

How much room is BEHIND the backrest in the back? I'm wondering about the feasibility of installing an amp/amps behind the backrest. Just by the looks of it, it looks doable. (I would like to stash a Rockford 500.2 amp and a 1 farad cap back there, amp is appx 14x10x3 inches)

What size speakers are in the rear panels and doors? 6.5 in rear and 5.25 in front? Every source I check has a different listing, Crutchfield lists F/R 6.75 for both.

Lastly, Has anyone dealt with running wiring to the truck box? Namely, I am eventually planning to install an in-dash DVD player which has a rear camera input (for reversing and whatnot) and would like to install said camera, as well as run an aux power jack to the back should I ever get a shell for the back. I'm wondering what the best route for running wires is.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide

DougK
