Anybody running a in dash DVD player in their Dak? Also, I heard that they wont play movies when your truck is moving. This doesnt make sense to me, but is it true?
2002 CC 4x4 4.7L 5spd 3.55 LSD
Anyone have a white or chrome grille for sale?

The in dash DVD players have a wire hooked up to the e-brake (in most cases) that won't allow a DVD to play on the screen until the e-brake is engaged. If you are putting it in yourself this is easy to get around, but if a shop is putting it in you will have to alter it after they are done. Laws don't allow a television or anything like it to be playing in the drivers view. Now if you had a mini-van and it was behind the driver then it can play while you are on the move.

This applies to any screen in the driver's view. If you want to kill yourself or wreck your truck by watching movies while driving, that is fine, just don't do it on any road with other people around.
I'm no safety nut (auto racing license w/SCCA and other nat'l clubs, rock climber, etc.), but rigging your in-dash DVD player to play while driving is just plain STUPID. Please THINK for a second and then spend your time and money on something worthwhile.

I didnt wanna pay $2000 for one of those brand new in dash DVD's that had the stupid parking brake feature....I bought mine off eBay for $600 with the brain unit! The brain unit has 2 inputs and which now I have a PS2 into one. My in-dash only has a CD player, it doesnt play DVD's...thats why i got a PS2 plugged into it.

that "stupid parking brake feature" keeps the manufacturers from getting sued and keeps you from doing something illegal.

LoL, i know......keeps them from being sued. thats not the only reason i didnt pay $2000. I just didnt like that feature. i thought it was just as easy to buy one with a built-in cd player for 1/4 the price and get a PS2 hooked up to it so i can have DVD and a PS2.
And i bet ur asking, "why would u get a DVD player in the car? thats stupid!" Well, when u drive for 21 hours to Fort Myers and switch from driving, u get kinda bored.

But it isn't a _feature_, it's a _requirement_. You're not likely to find one without it. And some of them are more complex, like Alpine- you have to press and hold the brake pedal, engage-release-engage the parking brake, then release the brake pedal to unlock the screen. And if you've got it tied into the VSS for navigation, it'll kick you out once it detects the vehicle's moving.

I have a panasonic 9200 in dash dvd,cd,mp3 player in my 2001 dakota quad. and the wire isnt hooked up on mine.I dont watch movies while driving but i play them on trips to keep friends and kids busy.
