I was curious... if i just run a 400 watt JBL amp and a Kicker crossover, will i need to install a cap to keep from killin my bat/atl? probably only running one 12" 4ohm sub for a while.

You should be fine.... If you are only running one sub to one amp. a 400 watt amp doesn't drain too much juice. If you had two amps, then I would say yes.
