Subject: console subwoofer IP: Logged
Message: I am going to venture into building a custom console this weekend which will house my 10" sub, just wondering how I should install the sub. Should I have it so that the back of the sub is inside the box, pushing towards the floor, or so the back of the sub is on the outside of the box, pushing into the box. Which will give a better sound quality and more fitting for the application.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks

Message: Youll probably want the sub firing out of the box being that it will be a small enclosure. Make sure to get a sub that is rated for your boxes volume. You may need to go with an 8 as opposed to a 10.

Message: Hey Bluethunder,
Great job with the consol mod! I too have speakers in mine, but I went a different route. I chose not to let anyone know a modification was made, so my sub box was designed to be as stealthy as possible. I agree, you may not be able to get the volume with 10" speakers, so I went with 8" and am very happy with it. Check out the Pics on my web site:

Great job on the box Tony! Do you have any pictures of it mounted? Also what did you use to wrap the rounded portions of the box ... 1/2" plywood?
Thanks,

Message: Chuck,
No pics of the interior of the truck yet. As far as the wood, it is flexible plywood. It has a solid top and the underside has been slotted evey 1/2 inch with a 1/8 inch dado. Get it wet and it bends like a lasagna noodle. Just get the shape of the sides and the flexible wood will mold itself to the top of it. When it dries, seal it with a fiberglass resin. You now have an airtight box.

Message: A 10 will fit and it sounds the best fireing towards the back of the truck. The sound needs 10 feet to intensify so a truck isn't the best vehicle to put a system in.

It's 3/8 flexible plywood. I am using a Crossfire TEK 75.2 amp to drive the subs. If you are looking to rattle the bones in your skull, this setup won't do it, but it still kicks pretty good and the sound quality is great. The space inside the box is actually to spec for the speakers. 1.2 cubic feet.

Message: Hey everybody, I was just reading all about these different ideas that people are getting and thought I'd ask for some help. I've got a 2000 Dak Quad Cab. I want to find a way to put in a 10" sub without losing my seats. Any ideas?
Some of you may also want to check out Q-Logic's web site. It'd probably help a lot of you. www.qlogic.ws
They have GREAT custom boxes and applications.

Message: I am actually in a design phase of a 10" sub fitting in my center console. i know there is a little grinding, and some really tight fit to get the sq. ft, well sq. inches proper in this case. but i don't want to lose the factory look of this regular cab, and i need the area behind the seats. i will actually have some photos posted on cardomain soon, first gotta design, build, and set up an account. i will post again.
