Subject: Amp Install IP: Logged
Message: What's the best way to install an amp under a front seat in a 01 Club Cab? I'm thinking about adding a sub, but I'm trying to figure out how to install the amp. If I do put it under the seat, how much of a pain in the a$$ is it to remove the seat? Thanks from a new Dak owner. I've only had the truck about 1-1/2 weeks.

Message: I have an MTX 6500D amp under the drivers seat, and a Fosgate Power 400.4 under the passenger seat. The seat removal was pretty simple. The tricky part of the install, at least for me, was tearing out the interior panels so I could run my wiring, install my MTX thunderform and the front and rear speakers. The head unit is another pretty simple project as long as you have the right dash kit.
Running the power wire (0 gauge) was a bit challenging as I had to punch a hole in the firewall and install a rubber grommet. The distribution block for the amps is mounted on the center 'hump' under the seat. There is a big empty area under the center portion of the 60/40 seat that left plenty of room for the distribution and grounding block.
One more thing. If you are going to install aftermarket speakers, go to autotoys (or somewhere else) and get the three bolt adapter brackets for the speakers. It makes the install much easier and cleaner.

Message: I have 01 CC and was in the same process that you where. I took off the four bolts holding the passenger seat down and then realized that the center seat/console is attached to the passenger seat (and the connection is hidden under the seat cover). So I said screw this, next step is to fabricate a back seat that can include my amps. Plus another concern is will the amp fit, I think the 01s have a little less room then the other year models, so stick your amp under the seat and make sure if fits prior to taking the seat apart.

Message: Anyone here have the bucket seats? i dont have a split bench... and i dont believe my console is attached to either seat...
should just be 4 bolts.
i know i can fit my draw bar under the seat, so there is prob enough room for a small amp..

Message: Yank the seat out, what are you waiting for. If it isn't connected (and you will find out quick if it is) then remove the four bolts and go to town.

Message: I yanked my drivers seat yesterday (long story). It is just four bolts, but the rear two are metric (can't remember which socket of the top of my head). Should take you about 30 seconds to remove and 30 seconds to re-install

Message: Just slide the amp under the seat before removing anything and find a good position for it where it doesn't hit the seat while moving the seat back and forward. Next take some masking tape and mark the back of the amp and the back corners on the carpet. Remove the seat and mount the amp.
Drilling holes through the carpet and floor is a pain, so if you have a thin ice pick, use the pick to punch your mounting holes for the amp. Just make sure there isn't anything your going to punch through like a wire harness, fuel line, etc. etc. Yeah, your going to say who would drill through something like that, but I watched one of my friends put a 3/8 bit through the fuel line of his Camaro, dohh!
