Subject: series or parallel? IP: Logged
Message: Just bought a pair of JL Audio 10W0's and a JL Audio 250/1 amp. I am going to make a box like the Thunderform. The amp is a mono amp , but the werid thing(to me anyways) is the fact that it has two pos and two neg on it for sub outputs. The directions say NOT to bridge it , so do I wire the subs in the box like stereo? And have two speaker connections on the box? The directions say that the pos and neg are connected in parallel inside the amp , and if using only one sub , it is not necessary to use both sets. So , am I right to assume that each sub uses two speaker wires , and NOT go series in the box , like the Thunderforms?
Sorry for the long post , Its been A LONG time since I've done a sub.

Message: I would think that you are correct. They just give you an extra set of posts so you don't have to try and jam 2 big wires into one post.

Message: Kenn,
The terminals on the 250/1 are paralled internally, in other words the two + terminals are one and the same and the two - terminals are also one and the same. Whether the w0's are 4 or 8 ohm, parallel them inside the box (sub1+ to sub 2+, sub1- to sub2- and from the amp+ to sub1+, amp- to sub1-). Therefore, you would need only one pair of terminals on your box (one+ and one-). Also, the 250/1 does not care if its a 2 or 4 ohm load, it will adjust itself automatically and always give you at least 250 watts of pure JL power! I would not series wire the subs, because you would double the ohm load and lose amp power. A single pair of 8ga speaker wire from the amp to the box will work. Use the outside speaker terminals on the amp (in case you have stray wire strands thay may accidentally touch and cause a low impedence condition). If you need any more help, feel free to ask.

Message: Sorry...I totally read your question wrong. I didn't realize you were talking about two subs in one box...I was thinking separate boxes for some reason. One box...definitely parrallel.
