Subject: Beginner: I need HELP IP: Logged
Message: I don't know much at all about stereo systems, but i will try and let you know my problem.
I am looking to improve my sound quality, especially the bass, but not put any sub woofers or boxes in.
Is there any speakers out there that will give me pretty good bass, with adequate sound quality.
I am also looking to replace the stock stereo deck. What type of CD player works well and is relatively cheap.
Any help is appreciated

Message: component speakers should help, they have a seperate driver for mids and highs, so you get much clearer sound. i got some cheap ones on sale for 100 and they made a world of improvement over the stock fronts. Also I got a kenwood deck from crutchfield. Any nice deck should have adjustments for sound, mine has a selectable setting for the type of speakers your running (ie stock, 5", 6x9") Your bass will sound a lot better if you get a deck with a good crossover so you can select to drop off the really low frequencies that just mess up your speakers anyway. Im happy with the bass i have and i spent all of high school driving around with my now def friends who had lots of large subs. In the end though if you want people to wonder what that annoying rumble is in traffic, youre gonna have to get subs

Message: Here's what I would do. I agree with getting a set of components for the front stage. I am a rockford fosgate man myself--but any high end set would be fine. I would run these off of the deck. I prefer pioneer---they have a lot of features with a reasonable price---and many of the lower end units offer different user adjustable equalizer settings that are more "pricy" with other brands. Then I would but a small amp (an older punch 40 or 60 off ebay). Then I would get a set of quality 6 1/2 midbass to put in the rear. I would use the amp on these.

Message: Here is my sugestion. pondhopr is correct get a set of components for the front and run them off of the head. but get a pair of JL audio 6w0 subs (about $70.00 each probably less if you shop) amd a small amp. they are small so you can put them in the factory locations but they will give you much better bass then a 6.5" midbass driver will. Buy a pair of XTC foam baffles put them in and coat them in fiber glass to make them rigid. easy to do. you don't lose any interior space, and you will be very happy with the sound you get. any questions e-mail me

Message: I totally agree with dak-five-oh. I did something similar in my previous car and it worked great. I actually used the 6" Free Air Woofers from Kicker, also I powered them with about 75watts each. Just use quality components and you will be happy with the results.

Message: I totally agree with DAk 5-0, I would highly recommend using the JLs. Use a JL Audio 300/4 4ch amp and you are set.

Message: You guys do know that the head unit only puts out about 12-15 watts RMS at most right?
If you want good bass without subs, you will need power...its simple physics, cuz SPL(bass) is totally dependent on air displacement--how much air the driver is moving when it plays, and you need power to move them. I've heard components off the deck and trust me, you can get a US Acoustics 2050 amp for like 80 bucks from www.thezeb.com and that will make an ENORMOUS difference in sound.
Also, for components, you'll want some with good midbass output, for that I recommend Focal Polyglass series, or the Image Dynamics Chameleon comp sets. Both of those give pretty strong midbass if you give them about 100 watts or so of power. For that of course you WILL need an amp.

Message: does JL audio make any speakers that will fit? I checked out Cructhfield, but it didn't offer them.
What do you guys think of this setup? (down)
I was hopefully looking to put some JL speakers in both front and back with a Pioneer deck, and possibly a decent amp(not sure what kind yet)

Message: Crutchfield doesn't sell JL, thats why they aren't offered there. Get the mounting depth from Crutchfield and then find the mounting depth of the JL speakers that you like the sound of, and as long as they fit and aren't too deep (they shouldn't be) they will work.
Lots of good amps out there, avoid Jensen and possibly sony if you can..

Message: OK after years of entering comps (many moons ago) I found this "formula" to get GREAT tunes (any kind of music too) on a "budget".
1st off you going to need to drop around $800-$1000 total... sorry, but there is almost no way around it, remember you DO get what you pay for. If you can't afford it do a little a time. CD 1st, then front speakers, then amp and finally the sub.
CD Player - any brand name will do, pick the one with features/style you like.
4 Channel amp with built in crossover (important to keep you subs from sounding like mud and your mids from being blow to bits) that can bridge into 2 channels - make sure it's 2 ohm stable in stereo and 4 ohm mono, if it can handle lower loads that's even better. Once again, name brand, 300-400 watts is perfect. I like HiFonics :) do not overlook or under-estimate them! Rockford would be another good choice and maybe US Acoustics (heard good things about them, but never owned one). Remember all music will going thru this one thing and getting amplified - a crappy amp is just that :P
6.5" Component (seperate) speakers - the ones with a mid, crossover and tweeter as different parts. Put these in your front doors, forget messing with the rear unless you plan on driving from back there ;) Infinity makes some great ones I think, but not that factory junk, I'm talking the real deal. Most imporantly LISTEN to these in someone elses car since everyone has different taste in tweeters. I hate those metal/tin ones and perfer the softer fabric/silk dome deals. 50 watts each from the amp and you'll be rocking'
Single 8" Sub - Kicker, MTX or JL, I like the Kickers myself. Just get ONE 4ohm load to be driven off the bridged channels of the amp. It should get around 200-300 watts mono like this.
Figure a good $100 for cables/wire, do not get cheap here or you'll screw everything up. Remember fuses protect the TRUCK not the components, fuse at the battery with the rated amount or watch your ride go up in smoke!
Like Waltherone said, forget using ANY radio for power, I only use mine for rear fill and that's cause a got a Clarion DSP processor with digital delay :P :D

Message: I'm just like Cal Dak and I really dont know much about car systems at all. I have a 97 reg cab, with a 40-20-40 bucket seat setup, and currently running a JVC head unit (50 x 4) and am very happy with it. Since my truck is a stick, nobody can fit in the middle seat, so I want to get rid of it and stick in a custom sub box.
First, thought, i want to replace all 4 stock speakers - any suggestions? I'm looking to spend around $200 - $250 for all four.
Last (this is the important question) I want to built a custom box to replace the middle seat. The seat is out already, and the plans are already drawn out. My uncle is really into body work, so he's gonna fiberglass it and match the color to the body. I plan to add two 8" subs, since I have the smallest cab style, anything bigger would be hard to fit between the seats, and I don't want to put them behind the seats. Also, I think that they would provide more than enough bass for the space. What would be a good sub and amp setup given my situation? And can I just run the four speakers off the head unit while the amp only takes care of the subs, or would I have to use the amp to power everything?
