I know diddly-squat about audio, and my question is this: what would be a good replacement for my stock speakers to start? Are they 6.5"? Thanks!

ORDER FROM CRUTCHFIELD!! they are the best when it comes to providing instructions. If you go to the website you can enter your truck and they will tell you what fits. Dakotas have kind of a funny size. Its a 6.5 but not really, the stock speakers are a bit larger, theres really two 6.5" sizes, a small one and a larger one. The speakers I installed were of the smaller size, but with some creative drilling and screwing it all worked out, if you dont want to be "creative" you can build a new mounting plate out of MDF or something. --- I got a good deal on some kenwood component speakers when a local audio store found a bunch sitting in thier warehouse. If you look around you can find a good deal on components. They sound a lot better than regular coaxial speakers. I mounted the tweeters right above where the mids are in the door at the front of that space in the door storage thingy. they make a huge difference. 99 CC 3.9L SLT
