Subject: Replacing 2001 Stock Stereo
IP: Logged

Message:
I would like to replace the stock tape player in my 2001 QC. I am torn between using a regular size receiver with an install kit, or getting an over sized receiver to fit the entire stock size hole. I have been looking around and cant seem to find the install kit for my year. I have heard that a 1998 Intrepid install kit would work.
Any replies would be helpfull

Also, look at Scosch. They had the install kit for my '01. I have the regular DIN aftermarket radio. Doesn't look bad at all. They also offer a wiring harness.

What about Crutchfield? The 1-1/2 DIN size for a 2000 Dodge Dakota, will that fit a 2001? Does it have the wire harness already installed on the receiver?

Yes it will fit (some pioneers don't) and you have to wire the harness up for your new stereo. It's not hard just match up wires and plug it in.

I bought a Piondeer DEH=P47 (or something close to that and tried putting it in my 2001. I ended up returning it because it has square edges and the 2001s have rounded. It will fit in there, but they don't make (at least I haven't found one) a trim piece to go around it so it just didn't look finished like I wanted it to. Just thought I woudld throw that out there.

The 2000 has a different shaped stereo (i am almost positive) than the 2001, the P47 should work perfectly in the 2000s.

2000DAK is talking about the corners on the wiring harness and Bill is talking about the corners on the face or the receiever. I think i am going to go through Crutchfield, they are pretty well priced, alot of choices and it comes with the install kit and wiring harness free.

Crutchfield has everything including the high prices, find it there and buy it somewhere else.

I apologize for the mix up, the FACE on the 2001 Dakota is round, where as the 2000 is square on the front. I talked to Crutchfield about my application and they said they did not have an installation kit the converted the square corners on the p47 to the rounded edges of the 2001. Hope that makes sense!

Here are some detailed instructions for stereo install on the 2001 Dak (not that you'll need them - it's a piece o' cake). Just got my Rockford Fosgate RFX9200 put in - got it on UBID for about $130 + $16 for insured shipping. Got the harness and install kit at Wally World for $16. (Crutchfield originally had it for $399, but now they are out of stock.) The unit sounds GREAT - even with the factory speakers!!!

My husband drives a 1995 Dodge cumins, 4X4, 3/4 ton, SLT model. It came w/all the bells & whistles, but the stereo in it is going bad quickly, I would like to replace it w/the original stereo so it looks good & we don't have to tear up the dash. If you can help me to find one, pleas let me know!

Allison, I would check ebay for the correct deck and fair price. I'm sure there are tons of them available for fairly cheap, as people upgrade their stereos all the time. Heck i would give you mine, except it's from my 2001 dak, and a bit different than the more square design you need.
