I am installing my system this weekend and i need your expert opinion. I have a 1.5 DIN pioneer head unit with 1 pair of pre-outs (front channel). I am hooking this up to a kenwood eq (the little 5 band with sub x-over)and a 4ch amp that will run my doors and subs. The eq has 1 set of rca inputs and 3 out(front, rear, sub). My question is can i run the pre-outs on the head unit into the eq and then use the front and sub outputs on the eq and it work right? Or am i going to have to get a line out converter and wire it to the rear channel of the head unit to run the subs. Many thanks for your help!!

That will work fine. Thats one of the best reasons to get one of those EQ's; if you don't have enought RCA outs on your head unit. I have a half-din in dash EQ that I run all my RCA's out from. The nice thing about using that kind of EQ is that it has a gain for the subwoofer which I can easily adjust depending on the music. Is your EQ a hideaway or dash mount? Either way it will work.

Thanks Joel !! One more question. Can i leave the rear stock speakers hooked up to the rear channel of my head unit for fill or do the rca's from the 1 set of pre-outs defeat the internal amp?

Yes...you can still run your rears off the head unit. This is a pretty common setup. I used it while I was waiting for one of my amps to get fixed.
