Message: I think with today's technology you should almost never have a problem with any CD player and they all perform to a standard that is pleasing to the ordinary listener.
It's really all about looks, features, price and does it fit. Just about everyone makes a single din unit that will work in our trucks, however the 1.5 Dins are still limited to a few models.
How much do you want to spend? Do you want 1 or 1.5 din (factory look)? Are you going to run external amps?

Message: I agree---pioneer offers a lot of features that you have to pay the big bucks for on other brands. I have never had a complaint with any pioneer cd player I have bought---and there has been quite a few.

Message: I was looking to spend up to $300 maximum. BUT, i was hoping that would include an upgrade in speakers too.
Does JL Audio make any speakers that will fit the dakota? How much do they run for? Do I need to get an amp?
I was looking at either Kenwood or Pioneer for the CD player, I am pleased that people mentioned both.
Thanks for the help guys.

Message: Just got my Rockford Fosgate RFX9200 put in - got it on UBID for about $130 + $16 for insured shipping. Got the harness and install kit at Wally World for $16. (Crutchfield originally had it for $399, but now they are out of stock.) The unit sounds GREAT - even with the factory speakers!!!

Message: No one has mentioned Eclipse heads? The best out there people!
Unless of course your into little pretty flashy lights like on those pioneers and such, lots of jazz that u will never use. If you want a quality head unit go check on the eclipse decks, no one seems to like them because they dont have all that flashy garbage on them.

Message: U gotta know that all the lasers that read the cd's are all made in china or something----so they are all the same.
Pay for only the stuff you need....if you don't have amps you may want to spend more on one with good quality power. Continuous or RMS power at no more than 0.1% THD(anything lower can't be heard by human ears) are the real numbers to look at. Don't be fooled by peak power or brand name.
#1 rule.....feed it right. Don't waste your money if you are not going to hook it up right. The stock wiring on any car sucks. Spend $15 and feed it directly with a decent positive wire from the battery, including a inline fuse. Then give it a good ground too......
So many people waste their radios on stock power wires( you could floss with most of em).
Even the worst radios sound good if hooked up right.

Message: Am I going to be happy swapping from a factory Infinity cassette unit to the factory Infinity c.d. and cassette unit? I am happy with the sound from the radio now. How does the c.d. sound? I know better than the cassette but are there tri=oubles with them? This will be a 98 unit going into a 94.
