Subject: 1999 Dodge Dakota Deck problem IP: Logged
Message: So last night, my buddy and I installed an Alpine
deck into my girlfriend's 99 dakota. After hours
of hell, we finally got everything working
perfectly.
On the way home, I decided to test out our fm
transmitter for the ipod. I set the station on
the transmitter (88.1), set the station on the
deck, and hit play on the ipod. We got no sound
at all. I tried the last three stations on the
transmitter and deck. Still nothing!
So then I unplugged the transmitter from the
cigarette lighter, and went back to the station we
were listening before. Now there's nothing at
all!!
As we got closer to home, I could hear some very
faint radio static out of the speakers but that's
it.
What could be causing this??
Blown fuses? Did a wire come loose at the exact
moment I tried the transmitter? Did the fuse in
the power wire go?
I'm so lost, and a total newb at this stuff!
Please help! I'm open to any ideas!!
Thanks!

Message: I did some further research. It seems the problem
is likely the amp we used. It's a Sony Xplod XM-
504X. Apparently there is a huge problem with the
over-current indicator on these (and most other
sony amps). Most of the people I found online
with almost exact situations, found out that the
output transistors inside the amp have fried.
I'll be picking up a new one in a couple of days.
If this doesn't take care of the problem, then I
obviously have a short circuit somewhere :(
