Subject: Stereo/No pwr? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 ext cab. It is a base model(crank windows, tape deck, etc). I recently tried replacing the stock head unit with a alpine cda that I had in another car. When I hooked everything up it would not power up. I rechecked everything and checked all fuses in the interior box. No go. So I hooked the factory stereo back up and its not working either. Also my interior lights do not come on when I open the door and the bell dosn't chime when the door is open or the headlights are on and the truck is off. Is there a relay or an inline fuse somewhere that could be causing my problem?

Message: It probably blew the fuse for the dome lamp which is in the interior fuse panel or it could have blown the IOD fuse. Check for the blown fuses either at the inside fuse panel or at the fuse panel in the Power Distribution Center out by the battery. The blown fuse may also be marked Interior Lamp or Cig Lighter or Horn.

Message: I have power to the alpine now, but no sound at all. I started over wiring and checked all my fuses again. Replaced the radio fuse even though it didn't look blown. I replaced the speakers and ran new speaker wires directly from the stereo to the speakers. Any ideas why im not getting any sound?

Message: Wanted to add something else to my post. I hooked the blue wire on my stereo harness(pwr ant) to the factory harness and the blue white I ran straght to my amp. Could that have something to do with my problem?

Message: Sounds like your truck has the factory Infinity amplifier. If you have the separate tweeters on the doors, then you have the factory amp. If you used an aftermarket wire harness to connect the Alpine to the radio harness in the truck, you need to connect the blue/white remote on wire from the Alpine to the blue/white wire in the mating harness. Also connect that wire to the remote wire on your other amp, I am assuming that one is for subs? If you did not use the mating harness to install the Alpine, connect the blue/white to the amplifier remote wire in the truck radio harness. It should be green/orange. The solid blue wire on the Alpine only has voltage when the radio is on, it is only for the power antenna if the car has one.
If you connect it this way and still have no sound, the fuse for the amplifier may be blown. Check the interior fuse panel and the Power Distribution Center fuse panel too. If the fuses are all OK, either the amp is damaged internally or there is a blown speaker or a speaker wire is shorted to ground somewhere in the truck. You didn't mention whether you had installed any new speakers, but if the wire or the speaker terminals touch metal in the truck, it will mute the Alpine's outputs and the outputs on the Infinity amp to keep from damaging the unit. You need to use a volt-ohm meter set for continuity and check each speaker wire at the amp or radio location for continuity to ground.
It has to be one of these things causing the problem. If the factory amp is damaged internally, you can unplug it and connect the speakers directly to the Alpine's speaker outputs.
Hope this helps you.
