I am looking to upgrade my 2001 4.7L Dakota's 136 amp alternator to a higher amp alternator.

Would I creating any problems for the vehicles electrical system by going as high as a 250-300 amp alternator?

Does anyone know if there is a "2nd alt kit" made for a Dakota?

Why do you think you need to replace the alt?

AM adding a couple of batteries to power an RF amplifier for my Ham radio. When I key it up now, it drags my engine down when trying to eat those amps. I do not feel like revving my engine up everytime I key it up. I need to be able to feed the amp off the alt verses depending on the batteries.

Try installing a big capacitor. That should take care of the initial spike when you key it up.
