Subject: Dodge REC Navigation IP: Logged
Message: Anybody know the dimensions of the face of the REC navigation unit. Looking to put one in my '05 and the dealer says he doesn't have sizes and there isn't a trim bezel for the Dakota. Told me others just cut the trim bezel opening to fit.

Message: Havnt tried it myself but I'd wager it will be quite a chore.
I have a 95 Cherokee with the REC, and a 07 Dakota I'm about to add Nav to.
The REC is huge - bigger than double DIN, I think it would take a lot more than enlarging the bezel opening to make it fit.
You might want to consider getting a low-speed MyGig RER system and using Lockpick's adapter unit (not the usual lockpick but one made especially for using MyGig radios in older cars like your '05)
The RER is better than the REC anyway. IMHO

Message: I took off the trim bezel to have a look and pulled the radio. No way would it fit. There is a huge steel brace so I couldn't put anything taller in the slot if I wanted to. There is an OEM brand GPS in Crutchfield that is the exact shape of the stock radio. Kind of small screen, but it would drop right in and look "stock".

Message: Stinson, thanks for the tip on the RER with "lockpick". It looks like that is exactly what I want.
