Subject: remove tool tray IP: Logged
Message: Well Ive decided to try out my woodworking skills and build my own box for a couple 10" subs. I have a 99 club cab. Havnt gotten very far.... Problems removing the tool tray. All bolts out but Im afraid of breaking something. Do the seats have to come off? I know the seatbelts are in the way but they should just push back right? Do the side panels have to come off??
Cant afford to screw up. Im too paranoid so anyone thats done this before I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance
Tim
p.s. My plan is just to copy the existing tool tray design. If anyone has any better ideas please dont hesitate to point me in a better direction.

Message: I took it out. Gotta take off the seats and i loosened the side panels (but you might not have too). ther are 4 or 5 bolts. 2 in the cupholders and 3 the other way around. If the bolts arent in your hands consider them still attached as i thought they had popped loose and floated int he cup holder but they were still grabbin hard. i needed to take em all the way out to do it. its pretty easy to remove, as long as those nuts are off.

Message: Yeah, make sure ya found the ones under the cupholders,I remember they tripped me up for about 15 minutes struggling to pull it out.If I remember correctly,It just took some slight bending of the tray to get it out after the bolts were all out.

Message: FYI, it's not that big of a deal to remove the side panels and the rear panel, and it makes it easier to get the tray out. All the panels are held in with the "plastic knubby things" and if you pull gently, they come right out, and you just push them back in when you're done. The only screws are in the side panels, but they are behind the rear section. So the seat bottoms first, then the rear panel, then the side panels, then the tray.

Message: Just wondering if the 2002 panels are attached the same way the 2001's are, with snap in place clips on each panel? I don't want to break them when I remove all of the back panels. Also, do the seat belts have to be removed at the top to allow for the rear side panels to come out?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I want to try to remove it tonight, to figure out my new box.

Message: Yes you need to remove the seat belts from their upper mounts. Pop the plastic covers off and use a T-50 Torx to remove the bolt. Once you do this, you should be able to pull the panel out enough to look in and see the plastic clips (they're yellow). Just pull easy they shouldn't break. Not like the ones from the '80s.
