Subject: Beware of cheap wiring kits
IP: Logged

Message:
I recently bought a "CB Wire" brand "4 Gauge" amplifier kit (KIT4) which was on sale. Although the wire has "4 AWG", "OFC", and "High Performance" written all over it, the actual size of the wire core is 8 gauge! (1.663" core with 0.008" strands). It just has very thick insulation, which makes the core appear bigger.

I measured the resistance of the wire to be 1.2 Ohms per 1000 ft, which is worse than that of 10-gauge wire. Sure enough, in comparison with a real oxygen-free copper wire, this wire looks like it's less than half copper! So much for "OFC"...

The "speaker wire" is so thin it's a joke. I didn't even bother to measure it, just threw it out.

Don't make the same mistake I did, avoid CBWire brand products. Total crap... and I doubt the "USA" stamped all over the wire has anything to do with where it was made.
