Subject: Putting your reat seats back in??? IP: Logged
Message: Hello everyone,
I had my 2004 Dakota CC broken into and they stole everything amp, deck, speakers - everything, bastards... I don't want to put a system back because I want to see it now. My question is does anyone know how to put the rear seats back in. I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I had 3 JL 10's in a custom down fire box, so everything was gutted and remove for the box and AMPs. I am talking about rear seat belts all brackets- everything wsa removed so i am kind of losted. The only item that were left was the paneling so it didn't look unfinished. Also I didn't take it out becasue my buddy's shop did all the work for me, but I live in TX now and he lives in Cali, so I am stuck on how to add it back in. Anyone have a maunal or Diagram I could follow??? Please help!!!
Thank you,
Johnny

Message: Sorry to hear about your truck. If you have all the parts but are unsure how to put it all back in, you might get a local car audio shop to re-install all the factory stuff for you. They will charge you for it, but it might be better to just have it done. Maybe your insurance would pay for the reinstallation? As far as I know there are no manuals or Haynes books out yet for the 2004, but you could search here and probably find other posts on installation for the deck and speakers. That might help. Reinstalling the seats should not be too hard, either. Good luck.

Message: I just tore out my back seat of my 98 CC to vacuum out the broken glass from getting robbed, too! While I was in there though I discovered a water leak at the back window, you might want to check that before it's too late.
Start with all trim removed from the back of the truck, including the side paneling which covers the rear speakers. You will have to unbolt the end of the front seatbelts so you can unthread them from the rear side molding to remove it. It helps also to remove one of the front seats so you have space to work.
First put in the rear seat belts. The shoulder belt spools attach at the back bottom corner of the cab on each side, with the strap holder at the top back corner. All seatbelts are fastened with big bolts with torx heads, but a 1/4" hex key works on them. Then the belt receptacles and center lap belt attach at two places on the bottom of the truck, behind where the seat will go. These line up with slots cut in the black tool tray, which you install next, feeding the belt clasps and center belt through the slots in the tool tray as it slides back.
The black tool tray that goes under the seats is held in place by 5 bolts, two of which are at the bottom of the cup holders and were covered by pieces of rubber on my truck. You will have to squeeze the tool tray to fit behind the front seatbelt spools, or possibly temporarily remove the front seatbelts altogether, it's a tight fit to get in past them.
Next set the rear seats on top of the tool tray in their desired configuration. Fasten their hinges to the threaded studs from the body. Then take the seat back (upholstered) and slide it down into position. It will hook into the rear seat hinges at the bottom, and into holes in the body at the top.
Then replace the side molding, taking care to properly feed through the front and back shoulder belts. The back belts slide into a slot in the molding, so they don't need to be threaded. but the fronts have to be threaded through the hole in the bottom of the molding, then re-fastened to the frame. The side panel is held in place by several christmas-tree clips, which will inevitably not work, and also by a velcro-style holder below the speaker. Finally put the two screws into place at the back of the rear molding, below the window.
The final step is to push the upper seat back trim into place, just a series of christmas tree clips. Mine won't stay in place because the clips all broke, and I can't find a compatible clip at the parts store.
Good luck!

Message: One more thing--
To remove the upper front seatbelt holders, gently pull outward on the bottom and sides of the part that says "push" (the slider for height adjustment.) This plastic covers the bolt you need to remove. It's hinged at the top.
I made the mistake of prying at the top hinge, thinking it was a clip or tab. Now it's broken and I have to hold it in place with a non-permanent glue or something.
