Subject: help please? IP: Logged
Message: I dont really know anything about car audio. But I just bought a set of infinity kappa perfect 5.1 component speakers and I have a jvc kd-sx9350 head unit in my (99 dakota regular cab) truck. Is and amp necessary for these speakers? will I need a seperate sub? where can I fit a sub in my tiny truck? what kind of amp should I use? multi channel? mono channel? I dont want to spend a ton of money as I have only gotten the kappas because they were on sale and seemed like a very good deal. thanks for any and all feedback.

Message: Kappa's are a nice speaker, and they will sound OK just connected to the radio. But they will sound much better with an amplifier, maybe 50 watts per channel on up. Check around at local car audio shops for good deals on a good amp, and they'll probably have a sub enclosure or be able to build you one for an 8 or 10 inch sub that will fit in behind the seat. You shuld be able to find a good 4 channel amp to drive the entire system. Adding the amp and sub will make a great improvement in the sound compared to just the radio by itself. The radio by itself just doesn't have the power to drive a pair of Kappa's by itself. And using one amp and one sub will save you money on the system. In a regular cab Dakota, you won't really need much more than that for great sound.
