Subject: questions about a new sound system IP: Logged
Message: sometime in the near future i plan on doing a complete overhaul to my sound system on my 1991 reg. cab dak. and i was wondering about speaker size, how many speakers there are, and if there is a good place to put a sub (if anyone has any pictuers of how they did it that would be appreciated). any suggestions on speaker brand, or stereo brand are also appreciated.
thanks.

Message: You should be able to put in a 6" or 6 & 1/2" speaker in the front doors and a good 5 1/4" in the rear locations. May even be able to use 6" in rear if the new speakers are shallow enough. It might be wise to use the old speakers as a template and make your own speaker mounting plates out of 1/" medium-density fiberboard (mdf). It would make the speakers fit better and sound better too.
You can get a pre-made sub box that will fit behind the seat or have it built or build your own box for maybe an 8" or 10" sub. Or make a box for multiple subs or possibly even a larger sub if you have the room. A good car audio shop can help you with the sub enclosure.
There are a lot of opinions out there on speaker, amps and radio brands. I personally prefer Alpine and JL Audio, but shop around and pick what sounds good to you that is in your budget. In the car audio world today you can get really good products for not a whole lot of money. Pick a speaker that sounds good to you. The main thing I consider in buying a radio is ease of operation while driving.
Hope this helps,
Jimmy
