Subject: Auxilliary input in '01 stock stereo? IP: Logged
Message: I have an '01 dakota SLT, cab plus with the infinity system and was wondering if you guys know whether or not the stock head unit has an auxiliary input to plug an mp3 player into. I'm going on a roadtrip and was looking for a quick way to hook up my mp3 player to the head unit.
Thanks for the help!

Message: There is a three letter code (RAZ for example) on the face of the unit. It'll tell you what model it is. Depending on the year these denote what features your stereo possesses. A dealer's part guy or FSM can always help deciphering these.
If the head unit has provisions for controlling a CD changer than it does have an auxillary input of sorts. A number of companies make a unit that goes into that interface for you can use another sound source. Otherwise you have no expansion options short of replacing the head unit.
I got one for my QC that's made by PIE.

Message: I'm in the same boat, trying to hook up an XM unit on my '01 and wanting to do it through an Aux-in connection instead of the FM tuner. How do you get to the faceplate to see the code? I don't have anyone locally that I'd trust to open up my dash....
Thanks,
DakotaCC

Message: Thanks for the response modain. I'll look for the code and then give the parts department at my local dodge a call and see if they can help me further.
Thanks.

Message: Hey Migs, look here:
http://www.wkjeeps.com/iPod.htm
for a unit that will give you an aux-in connection if you have the RBQ radio
and here:
http://dodge.autowebaccessories.com/store/dodge-dakota-accessories-cat232_238.php
to see if your radio matches the RBQ or the RAZ radio. You'll still want to pull the dash cover (I found out it's not that hard, do some digging in the archives here) to verify your radio code.
Good luck,
DakotaCC

Message: If two of your station select buttons are labled for next disc and previous disc, whether or not you have a multi disc system, then you have a system with the required port on the back.

Message: Thanks for the info guys....the code was right in front of the deck(RAZ) and the station select buttons didn't have the disc up/down on it.
Looking at the pictures, it also looks like the RBQ doesn't have a tape deck which mine does.
I still want to hook up my mp3 player but I'll have to take a different route. I think I'll start looking for a replacement deck and I'm also thinking about getting this steering wheel interface adapter from soundgate:
http://www.soundgate.com/index.php?request=product.details&categoryid=172&productid=446&usereferrer=1&
It hooks straight in without having to worry about having to stick the IR-LED somewhere like the PAC-SWI-X which a lot of people on the forums seem to have.
Side Note: Does anyone have the SoundGate REMOTE6 steering wheel control interface?
