Subject: Factory Stereo Acceptable??? IP: Logged
Message: I read in one of the posts that you couldn't hook up a sub. to the factory radio. Is that true or can I? I'm wanting one 10" in a custom box I'm making for a RC. If I have to buy a new radio then I'm just going to forget the whole idea of more bass existed. Also, what 10" woofer would yall recommend for a decent price?

Message: You can hook up a factory radio to a sub but its not going to move it. Factory radio was designed to drive some cheap 6" mids do you really think it can handle a 10" sub of any quailty (or volume)? You'll need a seperate amp, which you can hook up to the factory radio via an adaptor. However that option never sound that good.
So, either you want a "system" or not. If you do then spend the money and do it right - get a real radio, multi-channel amp (4 channel, 300 to 500 watts) and a nice sub with good components speakers up front. It can be done for around $800 to $1,000 and sound pretty darn good.
Sub = Kicker L7
