hmm, while removing my stock stereo, there is a black/brwon wire that wasn't hooked up to anything, is this a ground wire?
or something else?

If it wasn't hooked up to your stereo I wouldn't worry about it.
I checked the wire harness diagram for our Dakota and there's no mention of a Black/Brown wire. And most of the time Black is the ground wire.
