Could the lights in it be blown.. or have i screwed my whole gauge,, Any suggestions or comments would help.

Message: Have you tried turning the dimmer nob back on? You may have dimmed your lights all the way off.

Message: I believe the illum light wire is "orande/tan" or just orange..is it possible that you touched it to something else and maybe blew the fuse? i know on my deack i didn't have to hook up an illum wire, maybe yours didn't either? just a suggestion

Message: what year do you have. I believe all 87-94's have the dash lights wired through a 5 amp fuse. I cant remembe te name of it off hand but there should only be a few 5 ampers. i can tell you it is not the one labled "gauges" that is actualy power to the gauges.

Message: You may have poped the internal traces of the dimmmer switch. If grond was ever suppled to the "illumn" wire while the car was on than this is what happens. The lights inside of the dash are controlled by a cheap potentiameter inside of the dimmer switch. A quick touch to ground and you loose the switch and not the fuse.
Try getting a new/used dimmer switch and doing a swap out.
If you feel lucky you could open up the switch and jump the dash lights to the 12V+ that is supplied to your head lights. You will not be able to dim them but at least they will work.
Good Luck!

Message: And you laughed at me for suggesting the dimmer switch. Hopefully it is not a costly fix.
Good luck

Message: Hope your dash dimmer is fixed. Many modern dimmer circuits us either thin film potentiometers or electronic dimmers. these are very fragile little guys, not like the corrosion prone but robust wire wound pot on my '78 CJ-5. Always disconnect the NEGATIVE battery cable before doing any electrical work. Some circuits ate "hot" even with the key off.
I had an aircraft declare an emergency landing once because the pilot changed the mag compass lite bulb with the dash lights on. The electronic dimmer fried and he did't have "3-in-the-green" to indicate all landing gear down and locked. The lights would have worked fine if he had just turned off his dash lights momentarily and taken the landing gear lights off the dimmer mode. $2000 runway foaming charge incurred. Go figgah!
