Subject: Equilizer and Amp install? IP: Logged
Message: I have a Kenwood Cassette Deck in my 98 CC. I have a 6 disc changer in the center console. I want to add the Kenwood KGC-6042A EQ to the system along with an amp. I measured the opening and it looks like I could move the deck up enough to squeeze in the 1/2 DIN EQ in under it. Does anyone know where I can get a mounting kit to mount the deck and eq. Also pics of someone with this setup would be nice.
I also want to install a Rockford Fosgate amp Punch 400.4 under the passenger seat. Its dimensions: 13-7/16"W (9-3/4" without endcaps) x 2-7/16"H x 9-7/8"D. Will this fit. It looks like their is room. What size amps have you guys stuffed under the passenger side bucket seat.
One other thing. I will be installing Rockford Fosgate 6 3/4" Coaxials HPC1206 in the 4 factory locations. Any bad opinions on these? I heard RF seperates and they freakin rocked!
Thanks in advance for the help

Message: O.K. since know answered this one, I will give it a shot.
I don't know if anyone makes that install kit for the Dakota, but I have seen them for other cars. Best Buy, Circuit City and most install shops should be able to find you one or build you one. I have never been a big fan of those little eqs, they seem to always make more noise then good.
Stick the amp under the seat to see if it will fit. Move the seat back and forth and make sure everything clears. I have a 2001 model and there is no room for any normal size amp.
Anything will sound better then those 4 little turd dodge speakers that seem to be overworked with 2 watts of power. I have a set of $89 Kove coaxial speakers in the back of mine and they sound 100% better then the whole factory system.
Go buy them today.

Message: Matt. if all you have hooked are up the subs straight to the head unit then there is your problem. you need to get an amp and if you do have an amp it might have a cross over on it and it needs to be set to Low pass. if it doesnt or you dont want an amp you have to get a cross over to just get pure bass pumped to the subs.

Message: Like mike said...you need a Low-pass crossover. Either on the amp you have, or buy a separate crossover. Right now all the frequency range is going to the speakers..all you want is the Low end frequencies. That should solve your problem.

Message: i got an amp already and the subs are hooked to it. on the amp, theres a high pass an a low pass im using the low pass but my amp says nothing about a built in crossover. so then, your saying that if i get a crossover, the speakers will do their thing and the subs will pump pure bass?

Message: Matt, you're Low and High Pass filters are, in essence, your crossover. Whether there is a switch or a turn dial what they do is filter out certain frequencies. Usually they step 40, 60, 80, 120 HZ, etc. If you were to set your low pass filter to 80 HZ, then only frequencies below 80 are coming through to your subs. The same holds true for the high pass filter. If you're using an amp to power your cab speakers, then by setting the High Pass to 80, only frequencies above 80 HZ will be allowed through to the speakers.
