I am in the process of making kick panels for
6" mids. As the foot brake is so near the
location I am banging my head trying to solve
the problem.

1. Cut brake and slide higher? (not alot of
work , but not much extra clearence)

2. Relocate brake to hand style? (a lot of work)

3. Your idea?

Please help!

Nice system.
Have you thought about moving the computer and driver side kickpanel to create a little more room. With you having a manuel trans. your sure do need a brake. A lot of high end stereo shops have installed actuator (sp?) style parking brakes. Push a button and the brake is on. You don't think a Nissan style handbrake wouldn't be easy to fit in there?

a few question for you-

I am fixing to build some kick panels for my R/T and wandered if you have any good pointers? aka Helpfull instructions. There is probably a couple of other guys that would appreciate the advice.

I was just wondering how much trouble it is to make these kick panels because you can get some from q-forms-- the makers of q-logic boxes. This is just a suggestion. I know for a fact that they have some for every model from 1997-2000. I am not sure how much they cost.

Q-forms are not enclosures. They don't have backs to them and the sound quality may suffer from that. They cost $199. I considered them until I actually held one and realized it is just thin plastic that would buzz like a bumbe bee in a shoe box. You can fix up a q-form to perform better or go all out and build some custom kicks.

Thanks for the info. I thought that they would be solid. Now I see why you are trying to make them yourself. How can you make them rounded though. Are you using wood and have you thought about making a mold somehow and using a different substance to make the enclosure out of. Kind of like paper mache but not the same material. I am just throwing out Ideas. Maybe you have thought of this already and this does not seem very logical or very easy. As for the foot brake i would have to pass on that one until I actually started trying to do it myself.

I pic I posted is a prototype made of wood and
bondo. If and when I solve the problem I will
make molds and construct the parts out of a
carbon matrix. All other pics I have seen of
Dakota kick panels only show pass. side so
I'm not sure how to overcome the brake
problem. The concept of an actuator replacing
a hand brake gives me the creeps, but it may
be the only real solution.

Thanks for the help, Neil

Hey Neil, How is the progress, tried to pull up your protocol pic but it wouldn't. I had the same problem with my 98 ram. I removed the whole parking brake assembly. then cut the actual brake pedal bar that was in the way just below the dash and wiring harnesses so they would clear for the mod. Then welded an extender bar 90 degrees to both halves. Gave me about 6-7 inches away from the original location. Worked for me, hopefully i was some help.

I thought I posted before but I must have forgot the little second place you have to click. At any rate. I'm putting custom kicks in my truck. It's a 97 CC. I just took a pipe wrench and bent the parking break lever over about an inch. That was all the room I needed. Then I cut a 3/4" mdf ring that the speaker mounts in and held it at the angle I wanted. Then I cut the front edge of the kick panel so the ring fit almost flush at the front and was angled out and the bottom and back. Then I measured the distances and cut spacers to hold the ring. Screwed through the back side of the kick panel into the rings and the spacers and had a form. Then I put 3 layers on the front and 2 on the back. I'm still in the process of smoothing it but it's looking pretty good. I'm just touching up the air bubbles and then I get to prime it and paint it.

Ok, this was the first couple layers. I need to take some pics now that they are smoothed.
